Battery Tender

Has anyone installed a battery tender (more of a permanent pigtail fixture on the battery, then plug-in to the tender and outlet) on their car yet?

I can see where the battery terminal is for a jump or access, however wondered if anyone has installed anything related to being on a tender (or charger for the super old school peeps) for a longer period of time to keep the battery up to snuff. I think, as I haven't really researched this entirely, the battery is in a bit of a tougher spot to access (trunk?) and might not be viable for this without tearing things apart.

Eggggzactly what I am looking to find and do on the CLE53. Thanks for that link and the pics on the G Forum.

On our previous 2 911s, the battery was up front and in a perfect spot to wire it up and send the line up under the dash near the windshield. I am still wondering how to do this and will figure it out on the CLE53.

Speaking of CTEK, I am just going to throw this here https://mbworld.org/forums/coupe-roa...ml#post8548131

I had a Porsche brand charger for my old 911 that had a cigarette lighter end on it, I just plugged it into the cigarette lighter socket and ran the wire through the top of the window.
I believe there's a cigarette lighter socket on the passenger side below the glovebox or somewhere around there.

Some of the cig-lighter sockets are now switched. They stay active for a couple minutes after shutting off the car, and some stay active while a door is open. Makes finding what you want (switched or not switched) difficult.

Truth. I do have CTEK (their brand, not a rebranded one) for Lithium Ion and regular AGM batteries, so am prepared and ready!

Agreed, that is what they "told" you with the 911, however I had mine hardwired to the battery and will figure out how to do it with the CLE, as soon as I get the time to piddle with it. I never did try the cigarette lighter route and heard mixed results on Rennlist.

Agree here as well. I haven't looked into the cigarette lighter switching on this yet.

Thanks everyone for the input...things to think about as at the week progresses.

The cigarette lighter on the CLE is switched and cannot be used without the ignition on. Notably, the Operators Manual instructs that the vehicle must be turned on while using the TIREFIT kit.

From an earlier thread on trickle charger connection:

Not disputing the cigarette lighter being switched, but indeed confirming it is switched. I played around out in the garage and with the car a bit yesterday while doing some other putzing, and without the ignition on, the lighter port in the passenger's footwell and lower dashboard area, did not have power and is switched off.

More puttering this week to find the exact spot to install battery tender pigtail ends....

Don't forget the inline fuse

Whatever you do, do not forget to install an inline fuse on the end of the pigtail where it connects to the battery.

The pigtail that I have, has an inline one already, however it is a great reminder to check that it is a functional one as well. Well said, thanks.

One fellow’s review of sub-$100 battery chargers including the Battery Tender and CTEK. The presenter provides a chart and recommendations near the end.
