All Season Tire Options

I don’t need to replace the tires on my AMG 53 just yet but know I want to switch to All Season tires when needed. I put my car into hibernation for the snow months but All Season tires will allow me to drive deeper into fall and earlier in spring. It is the cold temperature that limits the Max Summer Michelins currently on the car.

I narrowed my selection to Continental Extreme Contact DWS 06 Plus and Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 tires. I will run 265/35-20 and 305/30-20 on the factory wheels.

My main criteria are noise and ride quality. Don’t do much spirited driving other than brisk acceleration on freeway on-ramps. (I bought the AMG version more for its look rather than the performance).

Asking for any real world experience with these two options. Any comments are welcome.

I currently have the Contis DWS 06 on my 2021 Audi RS5. Here in ND I run them year around. In the past I kept a set of winter wheels and tires to change spring/ fall with my summer wheels/tires, but became too much of a hassle.
The Contis are nice riding quiet tire.
I am on this forum as I am waiting for delivery of my 2026 AMG CLE 53 currently in port waiting for a boat ride. I quit Audi when they abandoned the 5 series coupe. My ‘21 RS5 is my third RS5. Great car, but I want a performance coupe, not a 4 door hatchback.

2025 CLE 53
I had the Michelin PS A/S 4's on both an E450 coupe and a CLS 550. In both cases I switched from PS 4's when they wore out trying for a little more tread-life. I found the A/S 4's to not feel as firm when hard cornering (to be expected). The A/S 4's were pretty quiet until they got down to about the last 3rd of tread life. Also I found the A/S 4's wet traction to be poor once about 1/2 tread life was reached (both cars were rear wheel drive). Only driven in FL so no cold weather experience. No experience with Conti's.

I got Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 last month since I use my car year round and, regretfully, didn’t pay attention to the performance tires this car came with.

Car ride is much nicer in terms of comfort, sound, and bumps. I drove in the rain and car was great. Haven’t driven in snow yet

my rears are 295 though, which was the size of the former tires. Why would you do 305?

MHBLAW - my wife drives a 2020 Audi A7 that we really like for the luxury performance. At the time there was the S7 available but she wanted comfort over sport. Great car. I too wanted an updated RS5 Coupe but that was discontinued and like you did not want another sedan. I am 6’4” and always been a coupe driver as I like the longer door and rearward B-Pillar.

jsloan01 - the rear wheel width is 11-inches and that is what the 305 was designed to fit. The 295 is slightly undersized and you can see by how the sidewall fits. The front 265 is optimum for the 9.5-inch width front wheel. Compare that sidewall fit to the rear 295 and it becomes obvious the 295 is undersized.

thanks. If that is the case, why did it come with 295s stock? FWIW, tirerack - where I bought my new all seasons - recommended 295 as well.

I do have a different rim from you - I got the 20” forged cross spoke (the ones the GT also has). Does that make a difference? If not, is it a problem I got 295?

the dealer said I should match the stock size, so hopefully not an issue

I really like your wheel but was just a little too open for me. I considered replacing my Y-Spoke/black accents with HRE 520 wheels similar to yours but not as open. But mine look good enough - for now.

I don’t know why MB installed the 295 v 305. See attached screenshots of Tire Rack specifications of the two set ups: 265 with 295 and 265 with 305. The measured rim widths for the rear indicate the 305 tire sits better on an 11-inch wheel.

I am just evaluating the all season options at this time and will determine final sizing when ready. I too don’t like deviating from factory dimensions.

Thank you posting this - it’s helpful. I didn’t realize or appreciate this rim size difference. FWIW, when I went to the dealer to do the tire swap, they said they can only order tires that are “approved” via their internal MB system. As of November 2025, Mercedes only included the stock Michelin Sport S 5 and the all seasons weren’t “approved” or considered “OEM equipment”. That said, they agreed if I bought the tires from tire rack that were the same size of the stock tires, then they’d install them, which is what I did.

Surprised there is this discrepancy. The 295 appears to be “too small”, but I don’t have a sense whether it’s a serious issue. My car drives great on these 295s, so I don’t have a performance issue at low or high speeds

About 1,500, so not much. I wouldn’t have made the change but I needed the car for winter driving. This was a miss on my part at the time of purchase - now have an extra set of tires

All season tires were not an option when I ordered my car. This is NUTZ as those of us living in colder climates cannot drive our cars for many months. Sheesh - even Germany gets cold.

I ordered my AMG with the 19” wheels that come with A/S tires. As.I previously noted, changing wheels/tires twice.a year was just not worth it. I also think the 19” wheels look good.

These tires are surisingly good except for steering feel.
Only light snow and ice so far, but no complaints.

Still nowhere near as good as the Micelin Pilot Sport 4 or 5 on dry pavement.

I have aftermarket OZ racing 20" wheels, with Michelin Pilot sport All season 4 tires. Drives well in the Colorado snow.

Looks great.

I will likely replace my summer Pilot Sports with Pilot AS 4 or Continental DWS 6 after this summer’s driving. Then I won’t have temperature limits. But I will not take it out during snow season. I am on a mountainside and the plow leaves a lot of salt/sand traction crap all over my area. I’ll use my SUV for the winter months.

I think I remember you from Audiworld. Welcome to the dark side . You'll like the CLE 53. I still have my C63S Coupe, but I drove the CLE 53 in Germany and I quite liked it. More engaging than the B9 RS5 and the inline 6 is smooth performance compared to the V6 in the RS5. Still miss the high-revving V8 from the B8.5 once in a while, though.

In Germany there are wheel and tire options for winter that can be ordered from the factory, but MBUSA doesn't wanna offer them, so you are on your own. All-season tires isn't really a thing in Europe, although it's starting to catch on with tires such as the Michelin CrossClimate series that have proper 3PMSF rating. Spent a month in Germany and Switzerland last October into November and the rental VW Golf had the CrossClimate on it. Perfect tire for the transition. It was nice sunny fall weather for the first two weeks, but then it started to get cold with rain and even snow on one day. Unfortunately, the CrossClimate 2 is a touring tire, but the CrossClimate 3 Sport is now available in Europe. Not available in North America yet, so it's interesting that they are targeting the European market first with the CrossClimate 3.

I've been running Continental Extreme Contact DWS 06 Plus for the past 2 1/2 years on Volvo V60 Polestar wagon and love them. The car came with summer Contis and I only put them on the summer months. Like you, I wanted to extend the time frame for using the all-season tires before having to swap them out for summer.

I can comment on the conti's positively. I was looking for a quieter, more comfortable ride and that's just what I got. The 305s on the rear look great and more "correct". Happy with the swap.

Thanks for the post. Can you take a photo of the front and rear tires? I will definitely go with 305’s in the rear when they get replaced.
