they probably don't want them both on for a purpose...

ie., fog lights are used in fog... the lights are placed low to illuminate the ground properly... the more yellow the light, the more effective it is...

highbeams are located higher, and if used in conjunction with fog lights, it defeats the purpose of seeing through fog as the highbeams will create a lot of reflection & glare coming off the fog.

thats my best guess as to why one won't work with the other...

Yep, you never use high beams in fog, so if your fogs are on your high beams won't be and Vice-Versa

i think what u saw was just the driving lights, HIDs, and fogs.... he wants to use the FOGS with HIGH BEAM.... it doesn't work... they can't be turned on together...

E 63S Wagon Renntech, E55 Renntech, SL65, SL 55 030, ML, bunch of old ones--they come, they go...
But you can alter this if you want....

by changing the pin locations on the relay. MB does this because they don't want you to run them all together to avoid (1) potential problems with archaic US lighting safety laws, and (2) to keep the current drain (read: heat) low on the electical system as well. A qualified (and a little dedicated) wrench can remedy this with the proper relay and some time. We used to do regularly do it in the old days with BMW's and 124's. so you could run all the lights all the time. Caveat though, don't let some hack do it.
