Closed door....Glass shattered

Today, a friend and I went to a meeting. On the way out of the car he closed the passenger side door, and somehow the rear quarter glass spidered up. He did not close it very hard at all, and there was nothing stuck inthe door. Anyone know how this could have happened?

the window hits the rubber weather molding as it closes, it could have hit it just right and spidered it. i think that you can buy auto raise/lower morers from newer models or cabrios but im not sure.

it happened to me in my old car. the air pressure inside is different from outside and when you open the door air gets in and when you shut it closed too much air gets in theer fast and it pops the glass. it's very common. and specially if you had the heater or ac on. but it's veri easy to replace you can do it yourself. and good luck man.

So are you guys saying that the sliding window feature (door open the window slides down a bit and after the door is closed slides up to seal) doesn't always work? Or is that feature only available on some model years?

Sorry to hear about the keying? I went to a Costco here in So.Cal and found a fender ding from a cart somebody decided to park against the car. Now I park in the furtherest end of the parking lot to avoid future dings.

I dont know when the keying even happened. I was at my friends house till about 5am, and it was dark and really didnt check/couldn't see keymarks. Then I came back to my building's parking lot, again, dark, couldnt really see. This morning I woke up to a keymark which stretches from the driver side door all the way across the rear quarter. Whoever did it better pray they have health insurance cause im gunna f*ck them up real nice if they plan on doing it again.

The car needs a new paintjob this summer anyway, its just annoying to be rolling around with keymarks. The window will be getting fixed monday at a cost of $218 and my friend who was the one that closed the door has offered to throw some money in to have it retinted.
