Yeah, I have a pair of the clear ones. They are decent quality, but after seeing them on my car I think I'm going to stick with the E v o sport painted markers instead. Here's pics of both:

Painted

How does that look at night with the light shining through the paint?

I had mine knocked out and molded into a one piece deal as if it wasn't there before. Just make sure they take out the housing unit before they patched it, paint and clear it.

Not as bad as the pictures make it look. In fact, in both pictures of the painted one, the lights are on. It's just that the flash is on in the first one so you can't see the light bleed through.

I read on another thread that people tape the light bulb to the bumper cover so that no light emits through the lens cover.

Is there an easy way to remove the side marker

a covered quarter and prying it out.. is that how you remove it??

Zip ties would probably be better than tape, but I'm not excited about either idea... just the thought of how beat up and what problems it might cause if it gets loose in there. I'm thinking I might pour a few layers of heat-resistant paint inside the marker to stop the bleed-through.

yes, pry it out with a cloth covered quarter, from the back prying it up i think.

My question is, could you take this side marker and smoke it in the same way guys smoke taillights with the Testor's paint? I think that would look sweet on a black car, plus it would let light throug in a way that didnt look wierd.

In the owner's manual it simply says to push the lights forward and pull them out. I'd suggest a butterknife or quarter wrapped in cloth. Put it on the back side, push the light towards the front bumper, then pry up. It's that easy.
