99 CLK430 transmission UPDATE!!!
Sorry for not replying sooner
Well I have my Clk430 back from the never ending transmission rebuild last month and it is running fine By the way trying to rebuild the transmission was a real pain; the parts have been updated so much that it would have cost like $5800.00 to rebuild the old transmission. What I learned form this is "Buy a rebuild transmission do not mess with the old one."
We bought a rebuild one from the dealer and the total cost installed was $4580.00 with a two year warranty. My mechanic still thinks that the bearings are the major cause of all this type of transmission problems and replacing the transmission oil every 30000 miles will help but the 208’s have those weak bearings.
I also heard a recall for the harmonic balancer on the 208’s, I had mine replaced with other damaged parts a couple years ago, I wonder if MBZ will pay my $700.00 back.
Please let me know if you know something about this recall.
I still think we should do something about the transmission problems on the CLK’s.
Have a nice day.

Sorry to hear that; looks we are headed down the same path. HB pulley collapse cost me $700+ and cost the aftermarket warranty company another $700+. Recent tranny fluid change exposed 60K mile fluid that was JET BLACK and THICK.
I am actually thinking about buying American again...

MB will cover you if you had the harmonic balancer work done already...call up your dealer, give them the VIN number and see if the recall applied to your car. if they ask for the service bulletin number or whatever, i can try to find that for you

I tried to have my dealership replace my harmonic balancer that was recalled. The dealership refused citing that they are only working on sl and cl at the moment. And until I receive a letter for the recall, they will not work on it.
