Question Trunk Opening Question

I just got my CLK430 a little over a week ago and i just have one question. i am not sure if anyone has ever said anything about this but before i call the dealer and ask, when any of u open your trunk by eaither the keyless entry or the button on the trunk does it fly up like a fu*ken rocket i mean it makes the whole car shake if i dont hold it and make sure it goes up slowly. is this normal.??

I saw someone the other day in a parking lot with the exact same car and i saw the lady open her trunk by her keyless entry and it looks like it kinda just poped open and she needed to push it up her self. (unlike mine)

When I open the trunk via the smartkey or interior trunk release, my trunk pops up about 3/4 of the way. I then need to manually raise it the rest of the way. I believe the springs are adjustable and yours may be in a different position than mine.

Can these springs be adjusted your self? or is it something the dealer has to do?

If i can do it where are the springs located?

YUP.

Mines opens up like a fricken rocket alllll the way up to the top. I opened it in a garage one time and it was too close to the garage door so it slammed right into it as it was popping up.

Yes, my car also shakes for a moment when the trunk opens fully.

I actually don't mind it opening all the way especially when i have my hands full.

It also startles people when they are close to the car hehehe.

There are 3 settings to adjust the spring on the CLK. It's located on the inside-right of the trunk. You may want to have the dealer do it for you... If the spring slips and pops you in the eye, you're going to be in a lot of pain.

I was putting it easy. My father is an Opthalmologist, and probably gets 1 or 2 cases a month of people getting hit by springs or just the trunk opening up to fast (or swinging open after not closing properly). It's not a pretty sight.

Mine's perfect- not too fast, not too slow. I was disappointed when I saw that my grandfather's new LS430 merely 'pops' the trunk like a Ford or something. I want my trunk to fly open at the touch of a button .

.............the springs themselves are fixed and not adjustable but the point of attachment of the springs vary to give you different degrees of recoil. look under your trunk cover. Their are about four different holes where the spring can be hooked to. This is an easily solvable problem.

Let it be !!

Hey BlackC230, let the springs be. Personally, I enjoy watching people jump when I pop my trunk with the keyless. Especially at Publix or shopping centers!!!!!

Take care, and watch those eyes !!
