LoJack and Remote Starters...

I know the CLK has (as standard issue) GPS that tracks the car incase of accident, roadside assistance, or if (god forbid) auto-theft.

Does anyone on this board have a LoJack! system on their CLK (or other Benz)?

For those not familiar, LoJack is a system installed in your car with a GPS device that is connected with the local Police where they can track and retrieve your car if/when reported stolen.

Also, anyone here considered/have installed an aftermarket remote engine starter (ie., from Viper, CodeAlarm, Clifford, etc...) since pre-'03 CLKs don't have the option of KeylessGo.

Is it even possible to install on a Benz?

Depending on who your insurance company is, they either will or will not give a damn about Tele-aid, so I got LoJack in addition and got a discount on my insurance. Very easy to install (like any car), and it was all arranged and paid for at the dealership. LoJack guy came to install it at my house.

BTW- Tele-aid has never tracked my car accurately. Usually puts me several (up to 6) blocks away .

LoJack is a more effective retrieval device because it is more difficult to defeat.

Some MB dealers install LoJack, - along with additional up-grades/options, - on high-end cars in order to realize additional profits.

i got lojack when i got my car too. it is definitely worth it because the cops can track your ride and it doesnt hurt to get a discount off your auto insurance.

The benefit to having the LoJack is that they can track your car while it is off. The COMAND GPS tracking will only work if the car is running.

thats something i didn't know...

I think I'm sold on getting the LoJack! system. This is one car I don't want to lose.

But in regards to the other subject: Remote starters

Does anyone here (or anyone you know) have a remote starting unit on their CLK?

Thanks!

With MB's that are equiped with Tele-Aid (GPS tracking) the people can track the car even if it is not running, as long as the key is in the ignition.

Lo Jack is a waste of money

From what a number of stereo dealers and auto dealers have told me, Lo Jack gives you a false sense of security. Most professional car thieves are well aware of how lo jack works and remove it immediately after stealing the car. The only time it is usefull is when you get a car thief who doesn't know what they are doing (and this person likely won't be able to figure out how to steal a late model Mercedes).

They just want to sell their own brand of security alarms with a 200 % profit...knowing, that a professional defeats their installations in seconds.

Where to install and how much

For those who have LoJack installed, 2 questions:

1. Where do you have the tracking unit installed (anywhere out of the ordinary?)

2. How much did you pay for the system (I believe the standard unit runs about $500 installed for other cars: non-Benzos)
