Question regarding having to add coolant and temp a bit higher than usual

I have a 99 CLK 430, I've had to add coolant quite often this past winter (4 times or so), and the car temp is always higher than the middle mark, sometimes closer to the 3/4 mark. I was just wondering if anyone else experiences this and if this is a bad sign?

BTW, since I did the last oil change (8 quarts of 0W/40 Mobil One with MB dealer filter), its been about 4200 miles, and I've had to add half a quart of oil, at about 3000 miles and now it needs another can or so. I drive it like I stole it though. I mention this just in case it has something to do with the coolant/overheating thing by some chance.

Any feedback is appreciated.

I would start by verifying the operation of both electric fans. They are separately fused and come on at different operating temps and under various operating conditions. Any coolant seepage from the water pump? Is there hot coolant flowing through the hose to the auxilliary coolant pump? Just a few thoughts.

I heard about the water pump leaking as a possibility, is there a possible way to check it for someone like me? (In my garage, without a lift)

Drop the belly pan and see if it's dry.
