Anybody have this AMG round hood badge?

If so, where did you get it? I realize that it may not be authentic, but I'd still like to get it for my 55.

Thanks,
David

Someone tried to peddle it on the forum. It came from the Far East!

He was ridiculed!

I don't think it is authentic. However, I don't think that the fact that it came from the far east (supposedly) is what makes it a fake. I'd imagine that badges and accessories are frequently manufactured in that area of the world for labor cost savings.

I'd still like to have it for the sake of novelty. I'd just put the flat MB badge back on if I lost interest.

Hi David,

the badge seems to be original AMG. The right side (silver thing)shows the TV tower of Stuttgart. The left side of the badge shows an apple tree of Affalterbach were AMG is located. There are a lot apple trees around Affalterbach (it is countryside).

This badge could be for the arabian market. They like this Schnick-Schnack over there. It is very nice, i like it, too.

Greetings from Germany.

-----> START ----->

I am wishing to purchase from your company, the flat, circular AMG badge for the hood of my SL55. I currently have the normal USA badge with the Mercedes "star" in the middle.

The AMG badge is circular, and has the word "Affalterbach" on top, and the letters "AMG" across the bottom.

The right side shows the T.V. tower of Stuttgart, in silver. The left side of the badge shows an apple tree of Affalterbach, in green, with red apples, above a blue body of water.

Thank you for your time, and assistance in these matters, and have a great day!

With Kind Regards,

SIGNED...

Why didn't you just send a picture? BTW, I have several AMG accessory catalogs from 1998 through 2001 and no such badge is in them. I'd bet it's a fake.

count me in...

that is one beautiful piece to put on a Benz. And as so long as it fits the CLK hood, you can add me to the list for the group buy.

Keep us posted on what you find out

From what I hear, the original item is very rare, < 150 made worldwide. amgbadge@yahoo.com sells them for $150. Solid brass and enamel. Not worth it IMO. Several C32 guys have them for the hood.

Here is a good resource to see it installed:

If it's any consolation, this badge is of WAY higher quality than the $40 plastic badge you can buy. It is a little smaller too. If you buy the badge for $40 you can see that fits over the gap and lies on top of the surface. This AMG badge fits recessed perfectly into the "dimple", so it's pretty small. If you take off the hood star on a current benz, you can see the size.

Perhaps the quantity of 150 is in addition to those cars, who knows? However, how many cars did AMG produce from 1992-1993? I doubt very many. You can try e-mailing the guy and see what he says. He probably made a lot of money off this, but I am speculating.

Exclamation My Supercharger has this on top of it!!

I was asking few people why my supercharger has this AMG badge right on the middle of it and now I know what this badge is all about. Very interest!! This AMG badge on the supercharger not color like the one on the picture. It's polish on top of square brash aluminum block. The square block is sitting right on the middle of the supercharger and which the my supercharger actually have a flat surface to have this square AMG badge to sit in.

When I pick up my car, I check the other 2003 C32 in the showroom which doesn't have this on it (mine is also 2003). My sale manager cannot answer the difference either...

Anyway, I will try to take some pictures so you guys can see it.

The hood emblem for the SL/SLK is NOT the same size as the authentic AMG badge. The authentic version fits inside the recession on the hood once the ornament is removed. The SL/SLK badge is wider, so it sits atop the recession like a cover. I will try and get you some dimensions.

Now here's the OEM plastic badge:

(note how it is bigger so it sits above the paint)
