Hi everyone,

First post...Im looking to get an older CLK430, and Im trying to get as much info about it as possible...Incredible site here!!!

From what I read, I should avoid the dealers at all costs...anyone have any experience with good independents in Baltimore Metro? I plan on purchasing a good warranty to protect against big stuff, but spark plugs? oil changes? brakes? where should I go?

I bought my 2000 CLK 430 convertible for $33,500 last year from a private owner with 29K miles. I was a bit hesitant at first since it did not have Xenons or heated seats but the care was in perfect condition as it had no scratches and the owner was a car nut with about 5 cars. This one was his wifes but was never driven. Do make sure when you look at cars that they have either Bridgestone or Michlein tires as these ride the best on the Mercedes. I have since replaced all 4 tires with Michelein pilot sport and the car rides so much better then the Perillas it had.

2014 E550 & some other stuff too...
Yes, I would not go to the dealer unless a gun was held to my head, or unless they are doing warranty work for free.

I have had horrible experiences at Towson Valley and Herb Gordon. Towson Valley scratched the wheels on my car and Herb Gordon just plain tried to rip me off. I did have a good experience at R&H Mercedes recently. They were very nice. Still, I would avoid any dealer. I personally use a few independent shops up around Bel Air, and they may be a bit far for you to drive. The Dealers have long been WAY out of touch with delivering value when it comes to service. This has become their major profit center and they are trying to milk everyone.

Smarter to buy your own parts on line and get quotes to install your parts. You will save $$$ and it will be worth the effort.

I have used Beaver Dam before and they were good. Talk to Marie there.

When I lived up north I used to go to Dietz who's specialty was MB's. They were around the aberdeen area but worth the drive.......... Of course this was around 10 years ago so hopefully the shop is still there . HTH... good luck.

Come see us at R&H Mercedes in Owings Mills. If you think the price is too high, you can go somewhere else. You can at least come by and see what you think.

Chem,

Try City Imports in Glen Burnie, MD. They are near BWI. They have been my family's mechanics since we moved to MD (around 18 yrs ago) and we purchase all our cars through them as well. It was originally a Jag shop (owner Dennis Pye is from Britain) but it has become a euro centric shop. If you go tell them (Dennis or Brad) that David Williamson refered you.

Hope this helps.

Chem, Not in B-Mo but I use German Service Center on Ardmore Ardwick Rd. close to the New Carrollton Metro Station (DC area). Jimmy is the owner and he's pretty knowledgable. By the way, I ended up buying my CLK430 Cab from a guy in Miami. Great deal...but unfortuantely, the car DID have issues.

Yep! Biz and I had a good talk this morning. I let them do it this time. $300 (the sensor is $130 I think). Not all that bad. They recommended changing out the MAFS but tha kid is headed to St. Maarten Saturday so I can't be putting out for something that's NOT a problem (yet)! When I get back Memorial Day weekend, it's top down babeee!!!!

Thanks man. Keep me informed. Send me email if neccesary. German Service did my CPS yesterday. Cost me $290. They wanted to do the MAFS but not now. I'll do it when I get back. I know the CPS was an easy DIY project but I'm really busy getting ready for this trip and all. By the way, Biz told me your ride was TIGHT! I'd love to see it. I'm sure I will one day soon. Keep in touch!
