My car sounds like a choo-choo train

Well, my car has been making some strange noises when accelerating. No performance loss, but when the windows are down and I'm in a garage or next to a wall when accelerating, it sounds like a dull ticking sound...almost like a real fast choo-choo-choo-choo-choo and the faster I go, the faster the sound.

Sorry for the bad explanation, but any ideas what it is? Air leak? bad cat? Missfiriing?

cant help but

I have a request, could you post a pic of your rear rims
I am lookin to purchase rims in the same dimensions you are currently running (18x8, 18x9). If you have a few angles of the rear rim - that would be gr8

actually... is the sound comin from your rear wheel area?

if so, I have had this problem and it had to do with the e-brake system. I don't know much else - just throwin out my 2 cents

i think i know what you are talking about. it sounds like its coming from under the car in the front. i hear it all the time when i start my car and when idleing in my driveway or something. but my exhaust is to loud i guess so i cant really hear it when i accelerate. hopefully someone might know what the noise might be.

I had a similar problem and found that one of the lower heatshields on down pipe was loose.

It's probably the purge valve or MOT sensor or whatever. Anyway, read this.......

I don't know if that's it JT....that's more from idle. Actually, when you were in my car last, you're the one the pointed it out, remember? lol It's only when accelerating....like a cho-cho train! lol Man, the actual description of the sound escapes me for some reason and all I can come up with is cho-cho.

I think i know what you are talking about. its kinda like...hmm.....maybe a ball in those spray cans moving around?

Anywho, ive read on these forums that it has to do with the exhaust. Its also a typical issue with our cars. Might be catalitic converter if i remember correctly. Costs around $200 i think. you can try a searching the forums, ill try to get you a link if i find the thread.

Man....I really don't remember. I know it's not the cat because I know that sound and would have easily diagnosed it. I wish I could remember it now.

It was in Seattle and when we were driving up that really steep, curvy road behind my house after seeing Mt. Rainer. The window was down on your side and you thought it sounded like an air leak or something.

Str8, ya jinxed me, man. I started getting a choo choo rub (and not from a female train engineer) today. I took it to a place around here and the guy said my brake pads were shot. I felt the disks and the rubbing one was hot as hell. I snapped a lug a while back and just tapped the piece out the other day but a little shard fell in the hub. Don't know if that's the problem but why would the disk get hot? And why didn't the brake lights come on if the pads are worn? I suspect the stealer just disabled the sensor when I had problems last season.
