My Friday Nite!!!

Well everyone, I had a great 6 months with my car, but unfourtantely due to a drunk driver on the Throggs neck bridge (in NY) my run has ended for now I guess until the Insurance company's adjuster comes to take a look, but from what everyone is telling me its going to be a write off..i grew so attached!

doh, hope you are ok...

yeah, you don't want that car back even if the insurance company can fix it... resale & fit/finish will never be the same... cash out and get another one...

That car is totalled w/o doubt.

Are you selling any parts off it? I need some random interior pieces

Yeah basically walked out with out a scratch.. i mean other than a little soreness in my back and me biting my tounge while the car was spinning im fine. But yeah maybe clk55 would be a good idea...lets see first what the insurance company does and btw it was a hit and run. This dude rear ended me and did not let up on the gas and guided my car towards the steel/concreate median and he took off...im hoping since it was on the bridge that they find this guy

Glad to hear you came out with only a scratch... on a sidenote

Someone explain to me what happens to the car when he gets his check (should he go with that option)... does he still retain the rights to the car or does the insurance company technically "own" the car and they it just send it to a junk yard for strippin and the insurance company gets whatever that can in return?

PM SENT

I'm with the other guy... I could use some parts which are probably still functioning.... PM me if your interested in parting out a few items.

Damn!!!

Hey....I'm glad you walked away from all of this ok....Your car is definitely gone...I used to work in auto claim/payments for a national company....If (and they will) they total you out, the insurance company "owns" the car, but usually they offer to sell it back to you for little of nothing and then you can sell the parts....like my friend totaled her Honda and she was able to buy it back for $100....good deal, b/c she was able to make a killin' off of parts...

I was rear ended in my 72 Monte Carlo, It was in really good shape. Insurance company gave me $2500 for it. I bought it back for $150 and then sold it for another $1500. The bumper was pushed in maybe about an inch and a slight crease in the rear fenders. So I ended up making more than it was worth.

once the insurance company cuts you a check, you can't take anything from the car... it will belong to them...

at best, if you have aftermarket stuff, you can take that and put back the stock parts and thats about it... (ie., aftermarket ICE vs. stock radio, etc...) but you can't strip any part of the car

if you want to strip the car apart and sell parts, you can take the check from the insurance company and then ask them, how much to buy the vehicle back... the buy back amount will be much less then the totalled payout... ie., if they cut u a check for $20k, the buy back price for the car will prob be like $10-15k

Most important thing is that you're ok. You can replace metal, but you can't replace lives.

One thing that I noticed about the CLK and Mercedes in general, is that the bumpers and other things are all plastic.

A month ago I went to Reno, Nevada on my 7 series, on the way back it started snowing/raining and I started spinning on the freeway, it was pretty bad. Good thing is that I didn't feel anything I hit, I only heard the sounds and that we were all alive. I banged the back bumper so much that there's no damage at all. This car is solid and saved our lives.

I just got it back earlier this week.

Actually when my brother totalled his M Coupe we were able to take all his ICE out (did not put stock stuff back in). BUt that was before they came to tow the car away.
