probably 2002. try to get 2000 or newer at least
As with any car.....the newer the better....get an '02 if you can.

problems and lack of product testing of sub-contractors !! not all cars fall in this catagory, but most are.
On back? The Mercedes Benz purchase of Chrysler was announced in May of 1998. I thought the CLK430 wasn't available before the 1999 model year. If so, that would mean the formation of DaimlerChrysler pre-dates all US spec CLK430's. Regardless, of the date, the W208 was assembled in Bremen, Germany. The same German workers continued to build the cars. Contracts with suppliers weren't changed, so the parts supply line was the same. I can't see how the purchase of Chrysler could change cars that were already in production. There were modifications to the W208, but that happens every year for every model.

the person who posted to buy a 1999 and back doesn't know what the hell he is talking about!!!
the first year production model of most any car has the most problems. I had a 1999....sunroof problems, window motor problems, electrical problems, etc etc.
and also, the 1999 model has the ugly sidemarkers. in 2000 and above, the blinkers are on the sideview mirrors. You will also get the better looking steering wheel in the later models. Same with the thin 5-spoke AMG rims.
