Saw the new CLK at FJ today, a review.

Anyways, I had a chance to compare the new CLK (209) to the previous generation (208) as they were displayed almost side by side with a car in between them. They were both dark colors, the 209 was black and the 208 was some sort of dark blue. Overall, the car seemed feminine as many people say the 208 is masculine. The 208's line had a more agressive stance compared to the 209 whose elegance could not be missed. The best part of the 209 is the absence of the middle pillar. Having all the windows down without the pillar makes it seem like a good cruising car by the beach with the wind in your face. What I disliked most about the 209 was the rear. From the side, distance from the end of the rear window to the tip of the trunk is a lot shorter compared to the 208. I like the 208's long sweeping line from the rear window to the trunk. Of course, the rear lights appearance and color was very nice as it is a new design.
The interior seemed nice, but then again I would probably say this about all new interiors I see. It was very clean and no more buttons around the shifter. Looking at the interior of the 208, although older, after seeing 209 was not disappointing so the 208 still has its appeal. The steering wheel also seemed smaller. Though it's now motorized, I still value the look and feel of the steering wheel more as we don't move our steering wheels constantly. Sitting inside, especially on the passenger side, seemed cramp. Maybe I'm just so used to sitting in my 208 on the driver side that anything different seems small or not right.
Overall, the 209 is a nice car but I was not disappointed that I'm driving the 'older' model. Its not as bad and 'ugly' as many people say, but its not that great either. The feeling I got when I first saw the 208s design was more intense than the 209. Maybe its because I've seen pictures of the 209 before it came out and read reviews and comments from this board that my opinion is like this. The 209s look will definitely appeal to an older crowd, I can already see it.
So that ends my first car review. Excuse the not-so-great style of my writing as it is not one of my better skills and favorite activities. Go see the car for yourself and tell us what you think.
Good day....
I sold my W208 today, so I'd like to think I'm less biased, but I just can't stand the new design.
Saw a new 320 on the freeway yesterday, it just looks horrendous. Like a Cavalier or Civic or something.
newbie: sorry to hear that you had to part with your ride. so what did you end up selling it for? What do you plan on getting next?
.I'm moving to NY tomorrow for college and I won't be needing a car, so instead of letting it depreciate further I sold it for a fairly low price to a friend. Dealers were showing little interest since the cars (stock ones in better condition, I might add) are a dime a dozen these days- and only getting worse I imagine with the 209 arriving.
As far as the next car goes, I might wind up getting a weekend car in NY- maybe a used ML or something.
After school, assuming my investments don't tank even further, I hope to pick up an SL55 (black, since I'm a glutton for punishment) with Brabus wheels and mods.... Clearly my black CLK430 on Brabuses left me wanting more
.Edit- Despite my infatuation with the brand, nobody else in my family drives a Benz :p.

If you don't want salespeople bothering you while you check out cars, then FJ is the place to be....

OT but... I usually wear shorts and a T-shirt when I go to the dealers so they don't bother me when I look at cars.. hehe
