Good Benz Wrench in Boston or NYC?

Hi all,

I have done a search on this, but I don't know if anyone has taken a newer 2000+ benz and had good service. I want to replace the MAF sensor which I have read is easy enough, but I don't have the time or the MB tool to reset the check engine light. Although I live in NYC, I am back and forth to Boston quite frequently. Anybody know of a good independent in either city? I decided to look after I found out MB of Manhattan wanted to charge $750 just for the part. Bosch part is only like less than $300 based on the posts here which is identical part. Unbelievable. Any suggestions is appreciated. Thanks !!

$750!!! WTF I bought mine from Helms Brothers Mercedes parts dept in flushing for $249 plus tax. Its a 5 minute job if that and my light reset itself. Give them a call (718) 631-8042 they are located @ 40-01 168th street flushing ny 11358. I have been to MB of manhattan before and if the short Hispanic guy Omar (lopez) helped you, then you were definately misquoted the price. He is a nice guy but makes loads of mistakes. He Quoted me 32.50 over the phone for a 270.00 part because he was looking at the wrong diagram. He also forgot to credit me for a part that I returned. Good luck!

Go here... $218.00 free shipping bosch part
http://www.autopartsway.com/AutoPart...Air+Mass+Meter

I ordered from them and recieved the item next day they are located in NYC.

For all you folks in Boston, I found a nice indy in Belmont. The place is called the Benz Den on Pleasant St off exit 59 on rte 2. They replaced my MAF, air filter, some transmission tubing, and topped off fluids to investigate why my coolant was so low. I payed a reasonable $660 and was definately happier than the alternative. They let me watch the whole repair which was nice as I got to learn more about my car and benzs in general. I think these guys spent more time looking at codes and reading/analyzing misfiring faults than the actual repair took itself, but they knew what they were doing and after the replacement and test drive the computer adapted to the new part. Now my car drives noticeably faster and my MPG has gone up to 25.3 highway. On the way to Boston I was only getting 22.1 which I got used to for quite some time. You can talk to Dan or Dave. Dave owns the shop.

CLK, I did talk to Omar before, but the $750 quote on the MAF part was from Adam in service. Omar is nice as is Roger. I've only purchased accessories from them with the exception of the front air dam splitter. I will never go back to MB Manhattan for service though. How a tech can test drive a car is a mystery with all that Lincoln tunnel traffic. Thanks for the suggestion at Helm's Brothers. They're not indy though right? Do you know any good indy's in NYC for future reference?

Installing a MAF is a no brainer. You just need a screw driver and it takes 5 minutes.

If a out of limit MAF was the problem, the CEL will turn itself off after 3 cold start cycles.

If you are due for a state inspection, the sensor ready inputs take about 20 cold starts and about 250 miles of driving to re-set (you will fail inspection if sensors indicate 'not ready').

Glad to hear that your car is running well now 928. Helms Bros is a Mercedes Benz Dealership just like Mercedes Benz of Manhattan. The dealerships parts pricing does differ from dealership to dealership but a markup of $500.00 is either a scam or mistake. I have bought things from MB of manhattan that were a couple of dollars cheaper than they were at Helms Bros and vice versa. I havent had any experience with their service department because I do all my own work. I have seen a couple of independant mercedes shops in queens but have had no experiences with them but I heard that there is a great one in Woodside. I dont remember exactly where though. Stay away from service departments in general unless your car is under warranty.

Yeah, I get curious whether or not the service advisors work on commision or something. I remember buying the blue Mercedes centercaps. $17 at MB Manhattan parts dept (Roger Kowalski). Before this, I went to Chambers MB in Somerville, MA and I was quoted something over $20 each just for the part by the service adviser while having an oil change. I only wanted an oil change. Cost me over $100 and then he went on to tell me he noticed other things wrong with the car that I never noticed or asked him to check. Just wanted an oil change. That's it. I am done with the stealership.

I use Heritage Motor Werks (formerly Hatch & Sons) in Wayland, on Rt 20. They're great people and know what they're doing. Been in the business for a very long time, family owned place. They service MB, Porsche, Bently, etc. Their rates are pretty good compared to the dealers.

Give Ken (service manager and son of Bob Hatch who owns the place)...http://www.heritagemotorwerks.com
