Painting Impact Strips

For all those 98 & 99 320 owners out there, I was wondering how much it cost you guys to paint the impact strips to match the body color of your car? I'm planning to do this after finals and wanted to get a estimate on how much it'll cost. Thanks!

If you remove them and take them in to get painted it should be cheaper. but even if you take them in it shoudlnt be more than 300-500 bucks max depending on who and where you take it. They are just impact strips...

You should buy the side strips in your color from the dealer because sometimes the clips break and you will have a fitment issue after removing them. Buying them new will be just as much as painting them. And have the front and rear bumper strips painted after removing them very carefully. Make sure you tell them to give you no less than 5 coats because they will chip very easily.

Remember you can do what ever you want but this is how I did it because the clips on the side strips are fragile and can not be replaced...once they break that's it. It's your choice but I hope my experiences will help you.

Hey Greg, if you get this done, can you post where you got the work done, and how much it cost? I live in South Bay/SF, and I also own a silver '99 320. I can't stand my dark gray impact strips and want them color matched as well.

What district of the City do you live in?

Seriously I really don't know how to but I'd leave it to the autobody shop that whomever I go to to take care of it so if they break it they will pay for any damages. I have my bumpers laying in the storage I could take a look at them and probably guide you through it? CLK FAN mentioned that he took his off maybe you could get some pointers from him.

Before I got my car repainted my body man quoted me $125 for all the strips. To get the door strips off you have to take the inside door panels off because there are screws behind the door strips. All the others pop out but for the bumpers I recommend that you remove them before pulling the strips or you will break some tabs. CLk On Dubbs Is right if you take them off yourself it will knock a lot off the price because if they dont already know how to remove them they will learn on yours and you dont want that lol.

when I removed all the moldings and strips off my 99' clk430, i did NOT have to take off any inside door panels. they just snapped right off w/ clips. I did remember having to open the door and unscrewing one bolt that held on the molding on the inside of the door jam though..... maybe the 320's are different???

The moldings from the dealership come painted already, so if you are willing to pay the extra money and get new ones, you don't have to worry about getting them painted =)

You may be right Clkal. He just told me that there was a screw behind the door I assumed that he meant on the other side of it. So whoever plans on doing it themselves be careful in case they vary. I was gonna run outside and check the door jam to be sure but my car is covered in snow and ice.
