Are 20's a good idea?

I need everone's opinion on whether to get 20's or 19's on my 02 clk 430? will 20's even fit? is there really a big difference with the ride? and any other pros and cons that are out there. thanks.

it all depends...yes they will fit,i personally like 19s alot better on the clk...its not bad driving just gotta watch out for potholes and bumpy roads...the ride is stiffer and it helps with the handling actually cuz you lose about an inch of tire as well with the lowpros...if your going for just looks get 20s and drive slow...wht color car you got?

19s or 20s

I would strongly suggest 19's. Your car is not designed for 20's and you will run into problems with clearance.

Piece of SH*T
Do a search it's been discussed plenty of times, but yes 20's do look better but 19's wont' have as much problems as 20's either way will still look nice.

Stock is 17.

I've had P-Zeros and 18s on mine for approx. the last 4 years. Have gone through six rims, yes six. Have even learned techiques for beating them back in shape with a hammer, and been able bang them into drivable shape, but, eventually, a pothole will bend them beyond repair. Have learned that the rim on the spoke side will show the bend more obviously, but the oposite non-spoked side of the rim will have a bigger bend, even though it will seem less obvious. Your inside rim can easily get ovaled.

Try this. Put your vehicle on a lift. Give a tire a spin, just with your hand, and fix your gaze on the rim's edge, such that the rim spins through your line of sight. and it is likely that you will be suprised by the amount of unknown damage you've been driving with.

Don't rely on balancing. You can balance most bent rims.

You can feel a front damaged rim in a tight vibration, or more, in the steering wheel. If you feel a vibration or rumble in your seat, then that is coming from a rear rim.

Have also popped 2 Pirellis, and one Michelin in potholes. I even air them hard, to try to avoid the cutting blow.

If 18 is a prob., then so will 19 and 20. But, hey, if you like the look, and you have the $, then, why not.

This is what 20's look like done right. The car rides the same as 19's. I just could never figure out why when I had 19's and walked away from my car after I parked it, it would always look to me as if it was missing something...what it was missing was 20's.

20's looks better. but then i freak out w/ 19s on these atlanta roads. if the tires were any thinner, I dunno what i'd do.

Keep in mind that it's gonna take some work to make 20's fit comfortably, especially to be lowered like CLK FAN's

I have driven on 19's since Ive had the car. I have had a few different sets of rims, but what it comes down to is if your blind. My WORST set of rims were 17 inch amg chromes, they bent like potato chips with ease. I mean some damage is completely unavoidable and you will do damage, but there are certain people who just seem to aim for potholes lol..

I have bubbled a few tires, you will do it to a 17 tho, so it really doesnt make a difference. I have smashed some pretty hard things with my 19's and there all straight, even in nyc/nj roads. I keep my pressures at 43 front and 39 rear, I have done this to the beginning, I dont care what anyone says, when you have a lowered car with big rims and low profile tires, it NEEDS a higher air pressure.

I bet most of you here have ran pressures in low 30's and therefore bend your rim easier. Even with stock tires I push close to 40 in the front, the rears can be left lower obviously.
