Help/advice....anyone??
The car has been in an accident and was hit lightly in the rear quarter drivers side and has since been repaired and you cannot tell that it was in an accident. It has a salvage title and it only has 42k in miles, the price that the guy is asking is 15,500. Do you guys think it is worth it?? Also how much are the basic wear and tear prices for repairs and maintenance? for instance how much is it going to cost me to have my brakes done etc...? the car is beautiful it has 19" wheels and low pro tires on it already, really pimped out car but not sure if i'm making a mistake buying it...experts on here please advise!
Assuming it's a coupe, "I" don’t think it’s anywhere near worth it. "I'd" recommend a car that hasn’t been totaled. "Hit lightly" is sales hype. Insurance companies don’t total cars that have been "hit lightly". The insurance adjuster, who saw the car while it was still bent, thought it had been wrecked to the point where it would be more expensive to repair than the car was worth. You have to ask yourself, do you really think someone spent more than the car was worth to put it back in pre-accident shape, or did they just do enough to sell the car to someone who may regret it later? If you really want to know what kind the shape the car is in, take it to a dealer for a pre-purchase inspection. It may be the best $150 you’ve ever spent.
If it's a convertible, the price is about half of what it would cost if it had a clean title and I'd still stay clear.
As for what things cost, the answer is – "It depends". If you need brakes and take it to the dealer, it may cost a grand. If you know how to do brakes, you don't need rotors, and it's only the fronts, pads can be bought for $60. That 2002 is now due to have the plugs changed. The dealer probably wants a grand (or more) for that too. If you’re worried about maintenance costs, do yourself a big favor and DON'T buy a Mercedes Benz that's been totaled. You could be in for the shock of your life if things go wrong.
IHTH
I've been looking to buy a car since my 95 jetta is falling apart at the seams and I've got a bunch of money saved so i figured i can splurge to drive a pimp ride...I saw an add for a beautiful CLK430 :

I went and test drove the car and looked at it thoroughly inspected how it was hit and also talked the guy down a few grand to 15k. So now i'm wondering if the car is a good buy or a horrible idea. It has a salvage title (but i'm not planning on selling it)...it has 41k miles on it but the car is a nice looking car and drives nicely. To be honest with you i'm in love with the car. the problem is i don't really know squat about MB and I'm not sure if its going to cost me an arm and a leg for maintenance and regular wear and tear. Can some of you guys give me an idea of what i should do? The car was hit in the rear drivers side quarter but is now fixed pretty flawlessly.
Also how much does an airbag sensor for the clk430 coupe cost and how much do the covers for the headlight/foglight cleaners cost?
MB maintenance is definitely expensive if you don't know how to do it yourself. But there are lots of things you can look in this forum.
About the car, I am not talking about price, 2002 41K is still a lot of good to drive. If you already test drive the car and didn't feel any shake and you love it, definitely it's good to drive. I just don’t like the idea of being salvage.
One thing, as I know, insurance company will not sell full coverage to salvage car so you have to live with this if you buy it.
Good luck with your choice!
