ECU Tuning Worth it?

I am considering tuning options for my '02 CLK 430. I know that ECU tuning can get you a lot of extra HP if done right? Does anybody have done this and can tell me what results they got?
I looked at some websites (speedtuning etc) but so far the data has not convinced me yet to take the plunge (No dyno before and after).

Can anyone help me out with data or with personal experience on this?

I got a speedtuning usa upgrade and was pleased. No dynos, but it felt better. There should be some info about this in the forum postings. I seriously doubt you really get the 20hp they claim, but it felt a little meaner.

Unless you have a turbo car, ECU tuning just is not worth it. You will get minimal power increase at best.

I'd think getting a aftermarket ECU would be better for the car as it does increase top speed & performance, accel better then a 'stock' ECU tuning.

A lot of people "think" here or have "heard of" but does anyone actually have any first hand experience or some hard data?
Those chips aren't cheap (600-1000 US$) and for that money in need some facts.

After dealing with my roush that is S/Ced to 500+ hp. I will agree with this statement. Took a month + to get the roush dialed in at being safe tune wise, pass Cali smog and deliver 500+ HP. In the end if was not for the end results it would have not been worth it.

I went from 260HP on block to 502 hp on block. The car is a scarry azz ride. And completly setup for it, unlress you go the route I went stay stockand put money into better mods. Merc are not known for power as much as looking too sweet.

Just my $0.02
