Question Tire reccomendation for 2001 CLK 55 stock wheels?

The Michelin's I got stock wore out too quickly. How often do you guys replace tires? I need to replace the front tires. Please make reccomendation for tires, either Michelin or any other brand. I'd prefer low noise tires.

Thanks

You probably have Michelin Pilot Sports. The Pilot Sport A/S (All season) have a higher treadwear rating that you can try. The Dunlop SP9000's also have a higher treadwear rating.

It's all a tradeoff. It really depends on how you drive, the type of wear your going to get. My guess is the average Pilot Sport gets between 12-18K miles - lets say 15K.

You can get either the SO-3's PP or If you want quiet Continental Conti Sport.

For your car I would only suggest Bridgestone SO3's or Toyo T1-S.

JamE55, I get a lot of road noise in my car currently. Would the rear tires make more noise than my front ones becuase they're wider? Am I more likely to hear road noise generated from my rear tires. Would putting low noise tires in front make a difference?

Thanks

What is your current setup right now? What sizes are you using for your front tires and your rear tires? What brand are they? Is your car lowered? As far your rear tires making more noise than your front ones don't think it makes a different. A friend of mine currently uses Continentals on his car and he said that it's quiet.

My experience with Continentals ContiSport/2's are mixed. Some sizes are very good and some I just plain don't like. I loved the Continentals on my E-class, but didn't like them on a friends CLK430. When I had to replace tires on my CLK55, I ended up staying with the Pilot Sports even though I went to 18"s (which was a concern). Overall, I prefer the Pilot Sports. The queitest tire that I really liked are the Dunlop SP9000's that I had on another car. High treadwear and fairly quiet, but generally not good for very hard drivers. . .

Yes, the larger the tire (same type), the more noise it will make. For example, take a Chevy raised 2ft with huge tires on it > they're loud! You rear tires make more noise than the front on normal driving. Your fronts make more than the rears during braking because the weight is being transferred to the front of the car. The Michillen Pilot Sports are very noisy, not the best performer, and more expensive than better alternatives.

I've decided to go with the Dunlop SP9000's. I'll get them installed tomorrow. Thanks to everyone for thier input.
