MB says 6qts in the tranny, confirm?

I have a leak on my tranny pan seal. I purchased a new filter, seal, and 6 qts of MB tranny fluid. The parts guy said as long as the TC is not being pumped clean, 6 qts is the amount I need.

I know a few folks have done a fluid change here, so I was looking to get confirmation of how many qts you used.

According to them 8 qts would have been around the amount for draining the TC as mentioned above. That'd be a full drain and flush. Simple drain and refill should be 6 qts, if anyone here can chime in that has done the change. I know a few people did it. Without a TC flush, that should keep over a qt in the TC. Maybe the proper question is how much does the TC hold?

4 and a bit is the right amount if you're just dropping the pan and changing the filter.

9 quarts if you're flushing.

I hope it's only 4..... I paid $16 a qt for that shat! I'll take two back!

Unfortunately I sprang a leak at the pan gasket and it needed to be done NOW so I had to run to the stealer for the parts ($238, gasket, filter fluid). I didn't have time for waiting on the net to ship. I lost a good bit of fluid over a 2 day period, to the point it was misshifting in hard turns when I'd throw the fluid up the side of the pan.

It's only been 2 days, and I'm going in to have it changed out in ....... 2 hours and 45 mins from now.

We'll see what it drinks.

What's the verdict? How much did it take.

And how in the HELL do you check/verify/refill fluid on these things?

You have to buy the special dipstick from MB.

I paid $45 for mine at the stealer

You DO NOT need the cap ($5) or grommet ($2) if they try to sell you one.
All you need to replace is the red locking piece when you pop the old cap out.

Same here! What's the best plugs to use. In the past my W124's all responded best to regular Bosch copper plugs (non-resister of course). Is that still the case? Thank goodness I don't have to drop $300 on caps and rotors any more!

It's time for a new set of air filters, that is going to be a PITA alone after the week I have had. (new brakes, tranny fluid, filter, gasket, 4 new tires, labor for each)

After I buy the filters ($80-ish) I can concentrate on the $300 for spark plugs.

Holy crap.. are they like $12.00 each!??!?!? That's almost as bad as a motorcycle! Check out sparkplugsonline.com or something like that. A couple years ago I need plugs for my Ducati ($18.00 each at the dealer). I found them online for $2.50 each. THE SAME PLUG.. made by Champion.. they just did not have the Ducati logo. I suspect the plugs can be found a lot cheaper.. maybe not

I need to look into this further before I get the tuneup on mine underway..

I just checked.. plugs are WAY cheaper than that. I'm finding them aroun $5.00 for upgraded. Checked the Bosch website and these are the 4 PN's listed:

Part Number Description
4418 PLATINUM+4
4301 PLATINUM+2
4501 PLATINUM IR FUSION
7422 OEPLUG GAP=0.040"
I'm sure my owner's manual way out in the parking garage lists the exact PN. So far, I'm thinking you can do plugs for around $120.00 still not cheap but at lot less than $300! That's STEALER pricing!!!

With the MBCA discount, I paid $7.50 per plug at my local MB dealer's parts counter. Jury, Autohaus AZ has MANN filters for $17 each.

If you wanna put those s**ty platinum $5 plugs in your benzo, go for it. I'm running the best I can for my car which is why I bought $16 each tranny fluid from the dealer rather than ATF from autozone. I had about $100 in 6 qts of tranny fluid. Sure I can shop online and find it cheaper, but the circumstances didn't allow, point being I didn't go for cheap sh*t. I'll withhold any comments about what is the same and what is not, just know "I" do not skimp.

Marcus I need to do the MBCA thing..... Just haven't had a chance.
