NEED HELP with CLK Engine !!!

Well I have pretty much been problem free so I knew that I would soon have issues like all the rest of thw 208's.

Here is my issue....

When I start my car in the morning and the car is of course cold I get almost no power. If I try to take off hard it just bogs down like its not getting enough fuel or something. But as soon as the car warms up it starts taking off like normal except it takes a couple of seconds to (Wind up) and then it takes off but with less power than it normally has before this issue started.

These are the items that have already been replaced in the past couple of months:

New NGK Iridium plugs
New Air filter
New Fuel Filter
New motor mounts
Cleaned MAF sensor 3 months ago when I changed out the plugs. I used the autozone MAF sensor cleaner.

I am almost guessing that it could be my MAF but hoping it is something cheaper!!! It has to something that is controlled by the engine temperature since it is not working well when the engine is cold.

Any suggestions??

Greg

Is the air cleaner assembly properly seated? The engine will bog if there's a gap.

I will recheck the air sealer for any gaps hopefully thats it...would that cause it to bog only when cold?

The air cleaner was sealed properly to the MAF so I am going to try the fuel injector cleaner today. What brand is the best to buy or should I have this professionally done???

Ok..I really do need some help now before I am forced to turn this freakin car in to a mechanic.

Ok I am still having the same issues as stated above except that now it hesitates at tale off now as well. It feels like it is going to die at take off for about 2-3 seconds and then it just kicks in and takes off, and this is with just a little bit of gas.

I have just replaced the whole MAF Mass Air Flow Sensor and rechecked all the connections. I am still not getting any errors on the dash or any CEL lights at all.

I do have some concerns about a sound that is coming from my exhaust...it sounds like there is some thin aluminum rattling. It could be my Catalytic converter. If it is my CAT then could this be causing my hesitation problem or is this just an extra thing that just happened to go out on the car as well??

And once again, ANY Help is appreciated.

I just did what many others recommended and that was to buy a bottle of good quality fuel injector cleaner and then I drove around pretty much the whole day.

I have been doing some more reading and I feel that it could be the ceramic that is falling apart in one of my CATS is periidocally blocking my exhaust thereby increasing the backpressure. I am confused after chasing this problem all this time now.

sorry to hear continued bad news, greg. i believe rattling does typically imply cats. unfortunately they're not too cheap. i'd have a muffler shop listen to it and check it to see if they think it's the cats. it would definitely be cheaper than the dealership, and they should know a bad cat if anyone does.

Hey Greg! Thanks again for the part...my car also recently had the same problem with the rattling sound...whats your mileage? Please tell me its less than 80,000..If so, take it to the closest Mercedes dealership and they will replace this for you under warranty. Fletcher Jones did it on mine @ 79,900...lol...anyway, as far as the hesitation, I did not experience this when my cats were going bad. Hope everything works out for you.

Well I dont know if anyone really cares but I will let everyone know anyway that I found the problem!!

My MAF was bad after all!! I ended up replacing it last night but didnt hook up the cable all the way. It ended up giving me the CEL light telling me the MAF was bad so I ended up checking the connection again and tightened it and now I have POWER that I hadnt seen in at least a year!! I am in love with the car again!!

As I was reading down the thread I kept saying "that is absolutely a MAF", but as I read I saw you say you replaced it and I thought "No it has to be a MAF... those are the maf signature trademarks".... then I saw the last post

Glad to hear you got it done I actually imported a MAF from Germany for $87 last year when mine went bad.

I am getting to 107,000 so the CAT fix is going to be all on me. I am in no rush to fix the CAT until it gets a little worse. My main concern was the hesitation problem.

Oh and were you able to get that light off that you were talking about?

And thats why I bought a MAF because it sounded like it but when I replaced it (loose LOL) it didnt work but got worse then I started worrying. I was about to start pulling plugs to check for bad ones when I decided to push the connection in a little tighter and BAM it works now.

MORALE of the story TAKE YOUR DAMN TIME EVEN WHEN YOU ARE TIRED..or wait a day!!
