Air vent distribution setting, am i crazy???

OK- I always wondered why I couldnt set the air distribution to point only to the "head" of the figure on the LCD, meaning all air out of the dash vents, nothing to the windshield, or the feet.

I decided to live with it..finally found my owners manual, and in the manual itself under air distribution, it has a pic of the arrow directly as I want it, all air towards the driver/passenger???

Am i missing a setting or something here? I just went over and I cant get this setting? this has always bugged me that the setting is always split with downward/upward split, anyone?

Ok took the CLK out for a quick spin yesterday, turned on the auto setting, and the little stick character guy dissapears, I get him back while changing the air flow settings and still no "panel only" -

Maybe its just not meant to be? plus does anyone know with the "auto" setting if the A/C engages and how its controlled?

Happy owner of '98 CLK 320
hmm funny, I have a similar problem.
I don't think I can get enough airflow down to the floor.
It's cold out here, but allthough the car gets heated fast enough (especially if I use the Webasto engine heater), I just never seem to be able to heat the floor (my poor cold feet) well enough

air vents

WOW, I'm in awe. I thought it was just me after all this time My two center consoles blow only a limited amount of air while the sides do the dang thang. My feet stay warm in the winter, but I want to feel that warm and cold air oout of the center

On the display, you see little arrows pointing to the windshield, dash and floor, right? Each press of the button cycles through the vent options

The button function works but the flow of air thru the middle vents is very low

Just Hit The Auto Button and all air will come out in your face!

But give it a 5 seconds because at first it will come out from the bottom also and burp a little from the windshield.

By setting the climate control unit to AUTO and picking a temperature the "in car" temperature sensor will determine whether you need heat from the heater core or cold from the evaporator and or a blending from both to maintain the temperature you selected. Just like a house thermostat keeps a set temperature. Benz utilizes the A/C compressor in almost all functions of climate control. As for low flow from the center dash vents make sure the obvious vent flap is set to the fully open position. Beyond that you may have an actuator malfunction which is not directing the flow to the center dash plenum.
