Anyone have luck with Sumi tires?
I've heard from other MB & BMW drivers that Sumitomo HTR+ tires are great bang for the buck right now and not nearly as bad as they were 4 years ago. Now I wanna see if there are any of us W208 drivers that would agree. Anyone recently purchased a set of these tires? If so, what do you think? I'm tempted to buy a set on TireRack since they're so freakin cheap!

i have used them, they were great tires for me when i had hit a rough patch. my only issue was the front tire about 1/2 way through life had started making the steering wheel shake at 50 + mph. I had the tire rebalanced with no luck, it went away when i bought a nice set of BF Goodrich tires.
for a few extra dollars you may want to try the geforce line by bf, i love them and will never buy a different tire again.

To be honest I think those "brand" of tires belong on a Honda or a economical car, go with the real brands.
Nitto, Falken, Toyo, BFGs and the list goes on for performance tires.

Kuhmo's have beaten so called "real" brands in multiple comparison tests Ive seen....If a tire costs 3 times as much but performs 10% better, how is that smart?

Falkens, Nittos and Toyos cost 3 times of a Kumho? Where did you see or hear this? When I got my "Falkens" guess which tire I didn't go with because of the price...so much for being smart.

Sumitomos Are GREAT Tires for the $$$
Had them on my 5-Series Beemer, outlasted Michelins and performed as well too. I've also used Kuhmos also fantastic. Right now there are about half worn Michelin Pilots on rear of my 2001 CLK 430. Still good Pilots on front. I'll be replacing with either Kuhmos OR Sumis!

Thats what Im talking about man, thats retarded. Why do you not buy a tire because of a cheap price? Cheap doesnt mean its a bad tire. Read the reviews and you will see how much people like these tires. Buy a tire based on its performance. My car originally came with Continentals, and they were shot after 20,000 miles and were noisy as hell. Ive had my Kuhmos now for 25,000 miles, and there is still plenty of tread left, very quiet, and very grippy/ responsive. I would buy the Kuhmos even if they were much more expensive.... the cheap price is icing on the cake.

) because the Kumho tires were way expensive then Falkens and Nittos, it was like stepping into Toyo tires terriroty. 
I have exclusive Falken Ziex 912s, an updated version of the 512s and for the price and the tire size they came in for our car, it was a bargain and a price that could not be passed up. I've researched the tire, comes out it's actually a bang for buck, the tire is great had it on for close to 8 months now and the tire treading hasn't budged, now that tells you something especially aggressive driving. Before my Falkens and when I first picked up my car it came with Nitto NT555s, those lasted 17 months on aggressive roads and driving conditions. Those were excellent tires but it was time for a change.
So basically to sum a few things up, buy what you feel your comfortable with, I'm just giving in my .02 cents on what you can get for the money, but hey if Kumhos work for you guys and the conditions your in, that's more power to you nothing more nothing less.

Funny you should mention that... because Sumitomo owns Dunlop.
Sumitomo tires are far from being second-rate, they are cheap but decent tires, made in Japan I believe.
The brands you should avoid are the Chinese-made tires - Nankang, Wanli, Nexen, etc etc...

I have used Sumitomo HTR+ they weren't bad, I noticed after 2500 miles they started making a lot of road noise and also later went bald very quick. Kumhos are nice tires they handle well.
It all depends on what you want. I have pirelli pzero M&S on now and love the way they stick on the road and their sidewall is great for tight cornering. Very quiet tire indeed. But they cost more..
