Question Question and request regarding my OEM antenna

hey guys, i think i might of have ripped off the rubber part of my antenna. everyday before going to sleep, i always cover my car. i guess this morning when uncovering it, i accidentally ripped off the black rubber piece that sticks out from the antenna. and i was wondering if there's someone that was willing to take a pic of their antenna just so that i have an idea of what piece broke off. i don't remember the antenna looking like that, cause the actual wire and the tip is exposed.

so if there's a good person out there who has 2 minutes to spare, i would really really appreciate it if someone took a pic of their antenna and posted it.

thanks ahead of time to anyone that is able to help out.

eh? Didn't even know the car was supposed to have an antenna.
Mine doesn't seem to have one.
Is that a cellphone antenna or... ?

I actually thought the antenna was in the roof or something.

The antenna is part of the whole assembly, not available as a seperate part, so your looking at around $300 or so to replace it, or you could spend about 25 on this

Just a cover though, not a real antenna

Well... there is nothing on the roof of my car.
There arent even anything there, that suggests something is missing.
Seriously... no sign of an antenna!

Is there perhaps some difference between versions of the car, the year the car was manufactured, or perhaps in the amount of extra gadgets the car was born with?

Really? LoL. i don't know what to tell you? I've only had my car for a couple months and i never noticed another CLK without it. But then again, yours is a '98, mine is a '01. "MAYBE" there's been a change since then.

Maybe other people in this forum can answer that.

The antenna on the roof is a GPS/Cell antenna, I believe introduced in 2000. So pre-2000 vehicles don't have this.

As for the replacement antenna shaft. Its plastic and fits well, with a little bit of trimming. Out of the box it is not going to fit, as it has a square base and that prevents it from fully seating into the cover. I also trimmed a little of the inside of the antenna shaft, using a file, this allowed the plastic antenna shaft to better fit over the nub that was left. Don't have any pictures to share though, sorry.

Just be patient, have a sharp razor blade handy and you should be fine.
