Exclamation Final Destination

I almost killed someone on a scooter last night...literally
Remember I am in Japan so the traffic flow is opposite.

Friday Night , I was driving down a 2 lane street returning back to the MB shop with my mechanic. The MB shop just replaced all my rotors so I was testing them out. I came up to a stop light, the road was clear without a vehicle in site for as far as I can see, so you know what that means. In the other direction to my right was nothing but bumper to bumper traffic. Light turns green and I punch it hard. While at full acceleration I notice on the other side of the street, where there is bumper to bumper traffic, a scooter sitting in the parking lot trying to exit. Blind Spot from Hell, he jumps out from between two trucks without looking into my lane. I hit the breaks but there is no way I can stop in time , my car starts to fish tail left so I come off the breaks and hit the gas. I'm doing around 80mph and I have a flash of seeing me hit this guy as I am watching him and his scooter go flying 20 feet in the air on impact. I had another flash of me loosing my job and going to Japanese Prison because I had killed someone. I don't know how my brain had time for a commercial break but I swerved breaking hard right into the other traffic lane then back into my lane with a hard left. This whole incident was all within a good 2 seconds, just to let you know how close this call was. The only thing that I can relate this to, to give you a better visual, is when you see cars being tested like on Car&Driver for body rolls as they drive swerving around the little red cones.

I was very impressed with how my car handled the situation. I don't know how I can repay her.

That drop I have with using the H&R Sports Cup Kit sitting on Pirelli 20's saved my life. Who said 20's are dangerous.

Also for those who have CLK320s and want more performance, change to a non-restrictive Center Exhaust as well as the Muffler. Not sure if any of you have done that or delete it all together.

My dealer/owner who sells custom MBs said my car was faster than any other CLK320 that he has ever driven or sold. I tested one that was on his lot a 2001 CLK320. His mechanics all have CLK 320's and have also said that my 320 is very fast. The owner drove my car for the first time last month returning my car to me at my home. Nice right, home service. He knew that in the past I always talked about getting my ECU modded so he asked if I had done that. I told him no and that the only performance change that he probably did not know about was to having a Super Sprint Center Exhaust which is non-restrictive.

Wow! Glad you were able to avoid the fool on the scooter. I swear, about 99% of the scooter riders here in Nagoya have a serious death wish. They drive stupid like that all the time.

Good job maneuvering around him/her. I hate to think what would've happened to you in a Japanese jail...

i was about to post about my near-accident this morning, but since i see you post your here, i'm gonna tag along:
Ok, this morning about 7:30 on 101NB to shoreline blvd ( if anyone from san jose would know this location) taking my bro to school. I went 75mph on the carpool lane, and some dude with a nice BMW bike came up, i changed to secong lane to let him pass me. while on the 2nd lane , i turn my head to the left to see who's the driver of the bike, when i turn my head back, the f***ing Camry in front of me braked to hell due to no reason and my car was almost 1car behind him/her. i push the brake pedal all the way to the floor, but i knew my car would hit it hard, i poped the brake and change to the 3rd lane right away, lucky the was no car on my right. in the moment i saw between the camry butt and my car nose was a hair line. my brother was scared to the point that he push himsefl neatly into the seat. and all that was happend in nearly 2 seconds. phew .....
good brakes, good tires save our lives

I agree. I married a beautiful Nagoya woman. I'm teaching English in junior high school, counseling at the Int'l. Center, and doing some freelance editing for various businesses and individuals.

I gotta say, this town is definitely at the top of my list of "challenging places to drive in due to the friggin' crazy drivers". People drive very aggressively here. Is it the same in Yokohama?

Kenneth04S, sounds like some crazy maneuvering there. You're absolutely right about the brakes and tires! Good job avoiding the brake-happy Camry.
That sounds like the kind of crap I have to deal with here on a daily basis. People just don't seem to recognize that there are other cars on the road.
