2003 CLK, are we sure?

We have not really heard much about the new CLK, has it been confirmed that it will be released for the 2003 model year? Since we have heard very little I am starting to think it would be released in 2004 along with the new SLK. What do you guys think, and is there anyway to confirm it will released in 2003? My dealer was not even aware they were developing a new CLK!

Exactly!

MB is too tight-lipped with new car release info. Makes it very hard to plan your 'next car'. This is a problem with the popular models that have the long wait-lists. I'm in line for a 2003 CLK430 cab and it sounds like that car won't exist. If it is replaced with the CLK500 cab, I won't be complaining! My concern is that there won't be any CLK cab in the 2003 model year.

My guess is early 2003 for the CLK coupe with the cab introduced 6-8 months later.

I WAS going to be getting a 2003 C32, but if the CLK body style does not change, then I will be buying a 2003 CLK 55 (Or whatever the AMG is in 2003), depending on whether the body style is the same. From the pictures I have seen thus far, the new '04 (yep thats right) CLK's look just hideous... especially those '04 SLK's! I highly doubt that MB would release that hiteous '04 SLK. Although, the only good pictures we have seen have been computer generated so who knows.

I posted this earlier in the current CLK-Class Forum and should have at least copied it here in the new CLK W208 Forum. ...RAB

This is all speculation, including the prototype spyshots. No official release by MB.

When and where will the NEW CLK be introduced?

Question

Karl K.

For the record, you might want to refer to my e-mail address: RBrown@fjmercedes.com.

I don't post rumors, misinformation and seldom will I speculate with my own opinion. Just the facts, Sir!

I'm an Internet Sales Manager at the largest M-B Center in the world and we're the #1 volume new, pre-owned, and service center in the USA.

My resources are excellent. I stand by them.

Naturally, all information and specifications are subject to change by MBUSA and MBEurope.

I was at a MB Dealership at Newport Beach, CA 2 weeks ago and the sale person told me that all CLK order after april/May 2002 will be the new 2003 model. He is very sure that the 2003 is coming in Sep/Oct. He also told me that if I really want the current model, I need to place a order before April.

Please no offense, but many MB dealerships provide different and conflicting info on the new CLK.

I am aware of your MB dealership website via your profile.

Here in SE Florida we have FIVE! (This includes the WORLD's largest & ...! See Accord's post).
Depending on the dealership and who one speaks to in the dealership, - one gets different stories.

Everyone claims their CLK forecast is accurate, including you, as an MB dealership internet mgr.

In this morass of speculation there are only two questions, which I like to get answered.

1. Is there any official MB News/Press Release re the new CLK?

2. When and where will it be introduced to the world? The venue is usually a car show.

RAB, would appreciate a response to those 2 questions, which should be in an MB News/Press Release. If there is none, so be it for now. I'll wait till the official MB announcment appears.

I have heard enough heads-up & conjecture; nothing else matters for me at this juncture.

Tnx, Karl

Just wait

Its just a car. I dont understand why everyone is freaking out on when its going to be released. I can tell you that im 100% sure its ready to be produced soon becuase I saw actually finished versions with rims and everything at the bremen factory lot. It was right next to the sl 55 AMG's and they were being driven onto trucks and being transported.

New CLK

I've read a number of accounts regarding which auto show might include the new (W209?) body. If memory serves there are at least two european auto shows coming up in February and March. I am certainly going to keep on eye on any upcoming shows. If MB intends to introduce a new CLK this year, they will have to unveil it in the near future. Remarkable when you consider that this year will include the U.S. release of the new E and SL class as well.

Talking well...

...the SL was actually intorduced in Europe last year, and the E class has an early intro for this year, in fact some pics online already show it well into production...anyways...if my contacts and research are correct this is what we should see....

the coupe debuts at the Geneva car show in march
goes on sale in europe in may
goes on sale in N.America july/august

this would correspond to what most people are saying about their dealers telling them that they cant custom order present clks into april as the new one will be probably start production sometime in april for the may euro release....

time will tell i guess

Absolutely none taken!

It's not my forecast, the information came to me directly from MBUSA. I will check in to your questions and get back to you later.

For the record, FJMC is the largest, physically size wise, M-B Center in the world and we have the MBUSA trophies to prove our #1 sales claim, too. We hear often of other M-B Centers claiming to be this or that. My response is simple. Ask them to show you their showcase displaying the official award(s) from M-B. It gets them every time.

I checked the YTD aggregate '01 sales figures for the USA and I didn't see any Florida dealer in the top 10. Edison of New Jersey is #2. Perhaps their claim is being the largest in Florida. That might very well be the truth. ...RAB

RAB: Tnx for clearing this up:

At this time, there is nothing official from MB re new CLK details and/or intro of CLK, that YOU can quote specifically.

Looking forward to the official MB answer to my two questions.

Tnx for your efforts.

PS
If possible, could you please post/share your trophy (pix) on this forum, which you describe so proudly as being a symbol and representative of your claim?

I have no doubt that you are correct; just thought that it would be impressive to see.

PS:

RAB MB dealership's website does NOT make any reference whatsoever to those claims, i.e. "world's largest MB ..."
