CLK-Class (W208) 1998-2002: CLK 200, CLK 230K, CLK 320, CLK 430 [Coupes & Cabriolets]

Do you guys think a CLK430 would have a chance against a 350Z?

I'm curious...

CLK430, stock'ish with only filters and exhaust vs. stock 350Z?

What do you all think?

edit: Curb weights are comparable, the 430 has more torque, 350 has more hp.

I don't know what the final drive ratio is for the 350Z...

You will be hurt by the 430's less aggressive differential, however, in a 1/4 mile race I don't see why not. The Z's 1/4 mile times aren't particularly impressive and the average driver won't be able to gas it and go like you. He'll probably kill you on twisties.

Dunno about the CLK430, but the CLK55 walked away from it like it was standing still... but this was on the freeway.

I mean, like it was an economy car. I kid you not. (Sure, the guy MAY have been trying to race in top gear, but he took off first.)

This question is similary to the one I posted in the past about a 1994 Firehawk vs CLK430 stock. FirehawK: 275 hp, 305 torque, and weigh 3400 lb. CLK430: 275 hp, 295 torque, weight 3200. Manypeople said I have no chance with the Firehawk, but I still beat it......not by much, but hey I got the win that's all it matter. Yes of course the Firehawk had a big jump from start, but half into 1/4 mile the 430 stretches it's leg big time!

I think it would be the same for the Z. Very close race.

My friend has one and we raced on the highway from about 50mph up and I pulled away slowly. We haven't tried off the line yet.

That's a good empirical result.

The Z has 280hp and only 260tq.
The 430 has 275hp and 300tq.

I would imagine that off the line, as long as it gets a jump on 1st gear, it will maintain "a" lead.

0-60 for the 350Z is 5.4 sec., against 6.1 sec. for the CLK430, but the quarter mile is 14 sec., which is the same for both.
I think the 430 will pull away slowly.

yeap I agree with that..I think 430 have more power at the end...Japanese cars always good on 1st-3 gear but for euro 3-5 is realy powerfull....hehhehe
