Is it possible to reset the ECU like you can in the w203. I tried it once in my '99 w208, but I couldn't really tell. It usually changes the way the car shifts. If you drove your car hard at the track, it may have "confused" the driver adaptive throttle response. You can reset it by:
1) turn the electronics all the way on, but not the engine
2) press the accelerator to the floor and hold
3) after 5 seconds, turn the key off, but DON'T remove the key THEN take your foot off the pedal
4) wait a couple (two) minutes and it should reset
I hope this helps you.

I would be careful about changing the fluid, the transmissions were designed to be a sealed system. I had mine for 232,000+ miles without a fluid change.

To the OP:
Have you spilled any liquids down the shift gate?
How many miles are on the car?
Has the transmission ever been serviced?
Exactly how hard do you drive the car? Any burnouts?

i change transmission oil every 3 months, i drive the car hard every day... from dragging, to burnouts, to power sliding ... u name it i do it
but all in closed environments (unused roads, empty parkings, etc...)

Yep, and the diff fluid too. Tracking a car puts lots of added stress on components....keep everything as fresh as you can (brake fluid/tranny/diff/oil).

Hey Chappy,
no spills, my car has 71K on it and i have had it since it had 25K.
i have had the trans serviced every 30K miles!
i drive it hard but am normally easy off the line and don't do burn outs really maybe once in a blue moon, waste of tires and 275 are $$$$!
hopes this gives some insight!

Regarding the car, the plate is busted, so they're replacing that. While they're at it, they'll do the infamous "transmission wiring harness o-ring job". Mine wasn’t leaking, but it’s a two dollar o-ring, so while they’re there, it only makes sense to change it. It's my understanding that when the o-ring leaks, ATF commonly finds it's way to the transmission control unit, and the metallic bits in the ATF fries the TCU. Naturally it's getting a fluid/filter change.
I know you said you were getting the trans serviced every 30k (?) miles but are they changing the transmission wiring harness/connector and O-rings? I found out these are supposed to be changed during every transmission service. A leaking one (no fluid on the floor. the fluid seeps up into the TCU, transmission control unit) will lead to weird transmission problems. My indy said if the connector/harness didn't fix the issue, he wanted to change my shifter (NOT!). Trans is fine after the connector/harness swap.

Hey Chappy,
My mechanic sent me to his transmission person as he is not too familiar with our transmissions and as I have no codes popping up, he felt his friend would be better! He wasn’t, his idea was to have me through money at the trans until he got it right. I wasnt having it so I left!
As it stands, I haven’t been driving the car to often as I have a second car! Nevertheless, I need so expert advice from you guys and girls.
Here are the full symptoms’:
Even if I am driving downhill, if I am over 40 MPH, the overdrive does not engage even if I move the lever to the right.
Car will shift into over drive if I am under 40 MPH, however, it will not engage overdrive if I do not move the lever over to the right while driving under 40.
There are no other shifting issues! All other gears work fine!
I believe it to be the speed sensor.
Any suggestions to what it maybe is appreciated!‼

Just do what I do sometimes....Take it to the dealer for a diagnosis (free or at most 1 hour labor) and then find out what the REAL problem is and see if it is something that you can repair or at least have your Indy repair themselves. You are not locked into having it repaired by the dealer until you give them the go ahead so use them for the experience and get the right diagnosis.

The best SoCal indy I know of is Mr MB Motors,5557 Reseda Blvd, Tarzana, CA 91356. Phone: (818) 708-8086
Other than him, I use Mercedes-Benz of Valencia. The service advisor you want is Mr Castro. Tell him Marcus Fitzhugh sent you. No rapage, C300 loaner, clean car when you pick it up, and it's fixed right the first time.

Reading up on this, it seems that the shifting points are determined in the ETC module (N15/3) based on various inputs. Also involved are the kick-down switch (S16/6) and the Electric valve control unit (Y3/6). An ETC diagnostic test will indicate the current shift points.

Do pedal ECU reset to reset adaption parameters for the transmission, as well as, a transmission fluid flush @ the dealership.
If that does not fix the problem your K3 clutch pack may be going out, but typically you would feel slight slippage when going into 4th gear. However in your case it starts to sound more like an electronic issue vs. a mechanical one. However, the 208 CLKs had weaker tranny internals than the later ones and the K3 clutch pack is almost always the first to give b/c it is used for 4th & 5th gear, reverse1, downshift into 4th, and downshift on decel into 2nd & 1st so its used all the time and its a much smaller diameter than the main clutch packs in 1, 2 & 3 (which are significantly stronger).
Pray its not the clutch packs... if it is.. $2500 min to rebuilt.
Hope that helps

I understand this 'wicking' that occurs when the fluid seeps upward thru the TCU harness and suspect that my O-ring is going bad. I just had the car serviced. My indy mentioned to not only change the O-ring, but to change the harness adapter. He says that there is an updated version running around. Do any of you fellas got that part number. He said he would do it for 1/2 hour labor, but wants me to get the part.
Thanks, John

Thanks anyway.
FWIW. Everyone should think of updating this plug at your next Trans service.
