Oil Change and A Service/B Service
Merecedes recommends service based on the computer indicator.
Is it really ok to change the engine oil at 10,000 mile intervals. Basically, you only change the oil during Service occassions, right?
I ask because I don't put a lot of miles on my car....maybe 2,000 miles in 3 months.

Thanks. I figured so when it tells you sevice in days by the FSS.
So leaving the engine oil for say 6 months is ok? At the least, I forsee 10k between oil changes.
Also, does the 01 CLK require synthetic? From the other threads it made it sound like Mercedes requires synthetic oil. I just never read that in the manual.

The FSS allows for 10,000-15,000 miles, or 365 to 730 days between services. Synthetic oil is highly recommended in cars with FSS due to the longer service intervals, although not officially "required". If I were you, I'd use Mobil 1 synthetic with every oil change.
...........I believe following the settlement of the class action law suit in which MB increased the engine warranty coverage for 1998-2001 cars that its dealers did not service with synthetic oil, MB now "requires" all of its dealers to use synthetic oil in all cars with FSS. Am I wrong?

hi guys, im sorry but I don't know what FSS is. Can you guys tell me? Also, when you change the oil in MB dealer, do they have maintenance warranty?
(I never change my oil since I bought it, 14month ago, 8600miles)
Also, if you want to have mobil1, do you have to bring the oil to the MB dealer and have them change the oil for you?
Thank you,
Solihin

The class action suit questioning the durability of dino oil going 10,000 miles or more based on the Flexible Service System was for 98 and 99 MLs.
I think for model year 2000 cars on, they started with free synthetic oil and filter changes for the duration of the warranty. My 99 doesn't have it and my 2001 does.
I think you can take your car in if it is over a year since the last service or every 10k miles. I had 5 months and 3000 miles to go, but yesterday had a free "B' service because the car was over 21k miles.
My clk has a sticker recommending Mobil 1, but you can other brands of synthetics... just use the right grade.

I just confirmed with Mercedes Benz dealer in Seattle, and they said you have to change oil every 10,000miles or a year.
They are using Mobil1 synthetic oil.
Free of charge :-) for 4 years/48,000 miles
