Newbie -- 320 or 430?

Hey guys,

I'm looking at picking up either a used 01 320 for 33,5 or a used 01 430 for 45,5.

I'm completely ignorant to mods available for either. Go with the 320 and mod it for the difference or go with the 430 and start there?

Say the goal is 300HP-350HP tops.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Steve

Is this for the coupe or for the cabriolet?

If you're planning to mod for more horse power, you should consider the clk55. just my thought.

From the information I've researched, for the horsepower that you want, the easiest way is to get a CLK 320 and get a Kleeman supercharger. Which should put about 330 hp. It's going to a lot of work and to get that much hp out of the 430 to get over the 300 hp mark, unless you supercharge it or bore it out to get a larger displacement. But the easiest and simplest way to achieve your hp goal is to just supercharge the 320. Go to evosport.com to get an idea for the pricing on the superchargers.

300 HP is easily attained on a 430 with minor mods, like Evosport UD pulleys, K&N or ITG air filters and a sport exhaust system from AMG or Eisenman.
For even more HP add a set of headers from Evosport.

If the 2001 320 Coupe is going to be released at 33.5 grand (normal mileage), I think it is a good deal. From what I know, you could get 2002 430 Coupe for around 46-48grand.
If you are high in budget, get CLK430 or CLK55 and get supercharge :-).
That's what I think.

I've decided to get the 01 430 for 45K with AMG wheels, exhaust, and some kinda sport package with a warranty until 2009.

It doesn't have the Command module or heated seats but has the rain sensor, rear screen and some other little goodies.

Sound about right price-wise?

Car has 9k miles.
