P0715

I pulled this off of my OBDCOM for a CEL on and got this
Input Turbine Transmission/ Speed Sensor Malfunction

Also even when just the BAS ABS ESP lights came on I got the same code

Recently I brought this to one of my mechanics about 2 months ago who worked for BMW and Mercedes for the BAS ABS ESP light that wont come off even after I fixed the Brake Light Switch. He said that my ECU or ESP unit has gone bad and that it will cause other things to go wrong as well in the car and that the part alone is about $2,000
So I said forget

Now in the past month or more my transmission has been acting funny.
It would switch gears and clunk or bump really hard.
At first I thought its a hose or a vaccuum leak or something.
Now lately in the past 2 weeks it gave me trouble switching gears.
I would get into 2nd gear and not go any further.
My car would wind out to 5,000 RPMS at 50 MPH
It sucks.

I brought it to my other mechanic and he said its most likely what I pulled (speed sensors)
He said he would take a look at it

So I did all the footwork for him and got him the rates he needed for parts he needed.

The VSS was $189.00
The filter $18.00
The gasket $15.00
The synthic oil $17.50

Anyways I have a picture from the parts guy of where the VSS is in the car.
And my mechanic wants to take a look and just before he starts taking apart the whole car he just wants to know if the part is external or internal

The parts guy said it was external of the transmission.

But can my mechanic just put it up on a lift and drain the fluid and put the piece in?

Please let me know.
Thanks

99CLK320,
Mine came off once as well. There is a spring, a small ball bearing and a chrome cap. The ball goes inside the cap first, then the spring, then the spring, not cap first, goes into the end of the cruise handle. Make sure the chrome cap is sticking out. Carefully insert the handle back into its original postion, push on the end of the handle until you hear a little snap and it should be in place. The cruise lever/handle is not secured very well, period. Mine came out twice and I just made sure that I was very careful whenever I was doing anthing in the immediate area. And, sometimes, when trying to use the cruise, I have to push in on the end of the handle then move it in the direction of the function that I want in order to make it work.

I checked this out already and it was very useful bro.
You seem to bail me out a lot lol

I wanted to ask you before I call MB back up.

I got a price of $189.00 for the Speed Sensor but does that include the plate?

I am pretty sure it does.

electronics kit (plate), part number 140-270-08-61 - $223.45

That pic is the schematic of what Mercedes parts department sent to me.
The guy on the phone wasn't sure what I was talking about as far as the plate is concerned.

I told him I needed a speed sensor and thats what he gave to me.

I just want to know because my Indy is gonna do the job for like $200.00
But I want to make sure he can bang it out when he has the car on the lift
that he has all the parts

I'm pretty sure the sensor is small and that whole piece is the plate I just wanna be positive.

The plate and the sensor are two different parts. The sensor sits on the plate. On my car, they had to disassemble it before they could see the crack in the plate.

The plate has six sensors. If I remember correctly, the six sensors total over $1K. They may have updated the kit to include the plate and the sensors. If they're sold as a unit, that's going to be a lot more money in parts. What's the part number for the kit you bought?

That's the same part I got. No sensors were included on mine.

You may want to consider getting a new 140-271-00-60. That $2 seal is needed to do the wiring harness o-ring job. It makes sense to do the job while he's there.

Oh @#^% I just PMed you without looking at this

He changed it and nothing changed its still in Limp Home mode

The parts guy told me this unit had sensors in it

I am looking at my old unit right now and its not fine but I see it has no sensors just connections to them

What should I have my indy look for?

Went to the dealer this morning, explained the situation

Waiting around, I sat in a SL65 AMG Black Series and it is ridiculous
I'll post pics later.

Also, here is what happened

He said that they cleared the code, drove it 3 miles and the code didn't come back on.
He said that because it is an adaptive drive car (drive by wire) he reprogrammed it and everything seems to be fine.
However he said that if it happens again then I will most likely have to replace the entire valve body which will go for around $1,200 with Labor

Didnt really seem like he was BSing me because he knew I knew a little bit about what I was talking about.

I drove the car back to my office and everything seems to be good.

I'll just have to wait and see.
