Hi Everyone, new here and have some questions.

Hi All, great forum by the way, I have a 2002 clk430 that I bought new, and ended up giving the car to my daughter a couple years ago, she now has a new car, and I got the 430 back, So, As you can imagine, it needs some TLC to get back in shape. Here's my list, maybe you have some ideas that will save me some cash at the stealership... It has 102k on the ODO.

1. climate control unit is shot. Only defrost buttons work. Needs replaced.

2. Valve cover gaskets are leaking.

3. Steering wheel control buttons are kind of "melted and sticky". ???

4. Sunroof has lost its mind, seems to not know the open and close limit points... ???

5. I think the motor mounts are gone again. Shakes a bit at idle.

Thats' all I have at the moment, let me know if you have any suggestions on the best road to take for these repairs... thanks much.

WOW..she did some work to that car HUH? Honestly though some of these items are normal wear and tear and some are electronics that just mess up.

1. climate control unit is shot. Only defrost buttons work. Needs replaced. Are you sure that the control unit is shot or are the buttons messed up and not activating the switch? Or is the screen not showing up properly? If the buttons are the culrpit then I would recommend taking the buttons off and fixing them by supergluing the plastic tab back on. If the unit is actually bad then I would buy a used one off ebay and replace it for 200 bucks instead of 1500 or more that the dealership will charge for the unit. Is the EC light on???

2. Valve cover gaskets are leaking. This is an easy DIY and can be done in your garage if you are a little handy with tools. Do a search on the forum because there are some DIY's that have been posted on this issue.

3. Steering wheel control buttons are kind of "melted and sticky". ??? This is a very normal issue with all our W208 CLK's and one that I am trying to fix as well. The only way to fix this issue is a visit to the stealership!! It will cost you about 160 to buy new buttons and I posted a DIY a couple posts back.

4. Sunroof has lost its mind, seems to not know the open and close limit points... ??? It seems to me that the sunroof has not been properly reset after a battery change or a loss of power. Do a search and you will see the reset procedure. I can almost guarantee that this will fix your issue with the sunroof.

5. I think the motor mounts are gone again. Shakes a bit at idle. This is a VERY normal issue as well. You can actually buy the motor mounts for about 150 for the pair and take it to your INDY (Independent Mechanic) and have them change them out for you. If the motor mounts were out for a while then it could have damaged the Transmission mount. Have the INDY take a look at them while he is doing the motor mounts.

HOPE THIS HELPS!! GREG

1. climate control unit is shot. Only defrost buttons work. Needs replaced.

Ebay, get a new one, common problem

2. Valve cover gaskets are leaking.

Re-torque, common problem.

3. Steering wheel control buttons are kind of "melted and sticky". ???

Wipe with mineral oil for a very long time, or replace, common problem. There's even an active thread on the homepage about this right now.

4. Sunroof has lost its mind, seems to not know the open and close limit points... ???

I have a vert, you'll have to search.

5. I think the motor mounts are gone again. Shakes a bit at idle.

Yep, they need replaced. There's a DIY in the DIY section on this. Common problem.

Thanks for the quick responses, The climate control started gradually losing functionality, and now the only button on the entire panel that works is the defrost, so I assume all the buttons didn't break off... I found a guy on ebay that sells the controller, about 150 rebuilt. I have been reading some of the DIY info here. should be able to tackle the valve cover stuff and possibly the motor mounts if I feel motivated.

can i use a normal stereo removal tool to slide into the slots of the CC panel??

thanks,

99CLK320,
I think the motor mounts are gone again. Shakes a bit at idle.

There was a post out there many months ago thatn stated the W209 mounts are superior to the 208 and interchangeable. And, I believe MarcusF posted a part number to them. conduct a search and you might find it or, if you are listening Marcus perhaps you can dig up that post.

W208 motor mounts are 2022402917. The W209 mounts are a direct fit. Those are part number 2202400617. They fit a CLK430, CLK500, CLK55, CLK63, CL600, CL55, C32, S600, S55, and SLK55. If they hold a 600 in place (612 ft-lbs of torque), they're probably what you want to use.
