For MMGRAD....
Hey there,
I've read some of your previous posts about your stereo upgrade. I too have a CLK 430 and am in the LA area thinking of doing a similar setup as yours. I'm getting an ALpine Deck and MBquartz speakers. Can you tell me the fitment (Size) of the stock Bose speakers? Did you replace your rear subs with anything, or did you just replace the rear speakers on the door that shoot into the seat? I was thinking about replacing the subs with speakers that shoot into the cabin instead of the subs that currently shoot into the trunk. Would that work? Any info you could provide on your setup would be great. Thanks!

Here are the speakers sizes:
6 1/2" in the inner part of door
1" tweeters on top (at the side mirrors)
4" (useless speakers) at the outter part of the door - fires directly into your seatback, I took these out since they are pretty much useless. You can use 4" mid-range speakers just to make more noise, but its not necessary
6 1/2" in the rear deck, behind the backseats
There is no way to directly mount the rear deck speakers to face the inside of the cabin because there isn't enough space. You will have to mount them facing the trunk, but don't worry, you won't miss too much.
Right now, I'm running a Alpine 7995 HU (prob will change to the 9815) with MB quarts all around, all powered by a big a$$ chrome PPI PC4800 amp in the trunk. The amp gives me the option to boost the bass frequencies, so I can create lots of base on the 6.5" rears, eliminating the need for a separate amp w/ subs. Its not the same, but its enough bass for me. It the closest thing without losing all your trunk space... i need space for my clubs
hope this helps you a little

Thanks MMGRAD, that was very helpful. Are the 6.5 speakers oversized or regular? BTW, who did your install work in LA, and if you don't mind me asking, how much did they charge you for the install?
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

I did my install myself. More work, but saves me some $$$ and I don't have $$$ like all ya'll folks out there. Plus, it gives me a better understanding on how the car is put together, in case I want to mod other stuff in the future.

I see. I'm actually in the San Gabriel Valley area...so I'm familiar with the shop. Yeah, the rear deck does sound like a pain to deal with. How is the sound with the speakers facing the trunk? Do you know if the 6 1/2s are oversized or are regular (for both the door and the rear deck)?

They sound good for 6.5"s, nothing as loud as like 6x9s, but i'm very satisfied. The sound is much more crisp, no bottoming out from the bass...
I'm not too sure about the question in regards to the regular of oversized... but if I were to guess, all of them were 'regular'.
Of yeah, make sure the 6.5s you put in the rear deck clears the allowed space... some speakers can have huge magnets. MB Quarts should have no problem fitting in there.
