At one point, I feel excited to get a new car, but at the other, I feel sad. I know that I am gonna miss my car a lot. Anyway, I will remain a member of this forum.

Alright, I had a Silver 2001 CLK320 with 18250 miles on it and I sold it for $35000. The car had K3 package. My next car is e46 M3. I am getting excited waiting for my M3 to come, which will take about 10 to 15 days. I am gonna miss CLK a lot. CLK is a great car really.......

I guess the market is pretty bad right now. I put the car in ads for $38000 then $36000 but nobody seemed to be interested. Once, I lowered down to $35000, I got two phone calls a day in average. I sold the car to a private party. BMW dealer only wanted to buy it for $25000 and Carmax offered me $32000. Anyway, there is no mark up for my M3.

Just for comparison...
In mid-January, got my 2001 CLK 320 Black\Charcoal, K3, K4, CD Changer with 20,660 miles in CT for 35,500... (Dealership)
Had choice of a 2001 CLK 320 Black Opal\Ash, K3, K4 no CD with 29,000 miles for same price... here in RI at another dealership
naturally .... took a ride to CT and got the black one with the 10,000 fewer miles.

The good thing of selling your car to a dealership is that you can save on the tax. If you want to buy another car, still save the tax and you want to sell your car to a private seller, you have to sell your car to a wholeseller and then pay around $500 for the fee, then you only need to pay
(the price for a new car - the price you sell your car) + tax

The reason people always get nailed selling their cars, is because they are in a hurry and 90% will bite the bullet and trade it in, which is the worst thing you can do, for the rest of us, we will buy our next car, and then put the oldie for sale and wait patiently. :p

If I were to sell the car, I would put it up for private sale, no point in giving the dealer yet another avenue to high profitability. I'm just putting feelers out there, don't want to go through all of the work associated with selling a car yet.

private party is definitely the way to go. But sometimes, you have to be really patient. I had put my car in the ad since last December but it was sold yesterday.
