2001 CLK320 Cabrio
I live directly on the ocean and during the winter months, they use salt on our roads here in the Boston area as well. Fortunately, my paint still looks almost as new.

I finally had a chance to look through the warranty book that came with my 2001 CLK320 Cabriolet.

All I could find was that paint/rust/corrosion is not even covered by the initial 48 month-50,000 mile limited warranty.

The basic verbiage was that paint and/or body defects are due to use and deterioration and to carefully inspect the car for any defects upon delivery as they are not covered in the 48 month/50,000 mile limited warranty. If any defects are found, they should immediately be called to the attention of the dealer.

I'm sure that other automobile manufacturers specifically cover rust/corrision for at least 10 years (maybe more).

I friend of mine, who owns a BMW had some rust bubbling on the front edge of the hood quite a bit outside of the 48/50,000 limited warranty.

She went to her dealer and they had a regional representative take a look at it and made the repair at no cost.

FWIW.....she was considering buying a new BMW and they specifically told her not mention that to the factory representative. I believe it had to do with BMW is very concerned about owner satisfaction (no so much about previously owned BMWs.

Before the CLK, I owned a BMW and found the both the factory and dealer interest in providing high customer satisfaction to be head and shoulders above MBs.

Thats normal. many cars in the UK have this problem as we have a lot of salt on the roads! Watchout around the boot lock and wheel arches

I noticed the exact same problem on my 2000, but at completely random places, like mid panel rust bubbles and underneath the plastic door ding guards and inside the wheel wells. The whole damn car is rusting out somehow? I read the same thing that the Benz rust warranty is only for 4 years in the USA, but its 30 years elsewhere!!!! Audi gives 12 years... IM not sure what to do either, because I dont think the car should be rusting in these places this rapidly....

Its a little bit ridiculous, seeing as how my friend's Toyota's, Honda's, and CHEVY'S!! are all around the 1999-2002 age, and none has as much rust as my Mercedes. This is a defect in my opinion....and shouldnt be happening at the rate that it is....

Wow, I'm shocked to see this! I have a 20 year old isuzu that doesn't rust at all. I thought that a mercedes would have been dipped in the anti-rust chemical like the japanese cars are. Good luck sorting that out! I hope mine stays looking good...

this is a common problem on UK 208's wheel arches are the common spots to look - cr*p paint - and most Mercedes dealers would do it under goodwill for up to ish 7 years if the car had full dealer service stamps - jees I though it was just us lot that had to respray half their cars! Cost me £1500 (ish $3000) to repair it and do both sides and bonnet! MB should stick their hands up - look at Toyota recently
