Brakes? Indicators for wear?

Hey fellas,
Do our brakes have 'sensors' or 'indicators' that tell when they need to be replaced.

I have a sqeak from around 20 - 0 when applying the brakes in a normal fashion, but it's not there under light or heavy braking...confused.

BTW, it's coming from the front...
Any ideas?
TIA

Your pads have wear sensors built into them, but you'll only get a display if the friction material wears down to the sensor. The problem you are having is that the backing plate of the brake pad is rubbing on the caliper due to lack of anti-squeak grease. The pads have to be removed to put more grease on, and if you go that far, it makes sense to just put a brand new set of pads on anyways while you have the wheels off.

Thanks guys!!
Now if I want to do this myself, is it possible?? Also, I was looking online for parts for the front brakes, looks like I will need:

Pads
Sensors
Anti-sqeak grease
Is this right?

But what brand to buy??
Pagid
PBR
ATE (Teves)
Textar

Thanks!

Without turning the rotors? This will only invite more sqeeks and other problems. Always have your rotors tuned when replacing brake pads. If you have more than 50% of the pad remaining, it probably does not make $ sense to replace them and turn the rotors. Besides, you can only turn them a few times before you must replace them which will drive your costs even high.

Mercedes-Benz does not recommend turning brake rotors. We don't have a brake lathe at the dealer for this reason.

Really? I stand corrected but don't try to replace the pads on an American car without turning the rotors! I've never kept a Mercedes long enough to have the brakes replaced

Thanks for the info.

How long should pads last under slightly harder-than-normal driving conditions?

Are the fronts and rears different?
