i just finished painting my grill flat black, and it came out absolutely perfect. you need to start with a 150-220 grit sandpaper, be patient with the 220 grit. work ur way all the way up to 600 grit so its perfectly smooth. after that use a tac cloth to remove all unwanted debris from sanding, then u are going put a few coats of primer. wet sand the primer after the first coat, then prime it again, let dry, spray gloss black ( few solid coats should do ) then clear coat and ur ready to go =] heres a pic of how mine turned out. i did it myself in my garage, it took a couple hours all together, can easily be done in 1 day.

the chrome in the grill just came right off? what about chipping? i do a lot of highway driving so my hood has a decent amount of chips in it that arent very noticeable on the silver paint. but i feel like it will be very noticeable on black paint

the chrome will come off with the 150-220 grit really well, but you need to be patient. after the first couple layers of primer and paint, there will be a good about of paint over the grill and adding multiple layers of clearcoat will give it a really nice shine that also will protect it. my friend has an acura rsx and has had his grill painted gloss black for a few months now and u honestly cant notice the chips. layers of clear coat keep it safe

i just love how clean it looks. i have the flat black on the fenders, the entire chrome trim (around the car and the handles), and grill so it flows really well with the car. im also painting the chrome on my rims and the chrome inside my headlights flat black at the moment. i cant wait to put it all together and see how it looks!

I know what you mean about sometimes missing the chrome, however having a black car too I think it works superb! I like the understated look. If I had silver I would keep the chrome and the Star I think..

ill put up some close up pics as soon as i get my car back, im having the ECM replaced right now down at mercedes of pompano in florida. the flat black trim looks really really nice tho. you can kinda see it in the picture of my car on the back pumper, but it looks really nice in person. i just taped it all off with painters tape, sanded it down a little with 400 grit paper, then used a fine tip horse hair brush ( i have like 1000 from a couple years ago, high school art class ) and it worked out really well for me. but u could also spray it as long as u make sure the whole car is covered, i was scared that if i sprayed it, i was going to get paint on the car haha and that bugged me out because i wanted it to be perfect.. so i just did it by hand
