Anatomy of a Manifold

Some time ago, I purchased a set of CLK320 manifolds. A couple of members had requested sets of my headers for this model, so I wanted to make sure we got all of the dimension correct and not just guesstimate off of the V8 set we had been using.

So once we got everthing mocked up, we cut one open to see how they worked and I would say it was interesting to say the least.

As you can see from the pictures, the exit tubes are actually just slip fittings that expand from the heat of the exhaust and the whole things is kept together with the outer casing.

These are beautiful.

Let me know if you ever plan on selling sets because if they're priced right I'm very interested.

I am currently researching whether or not these will work on the W209 chassis.

Good quality Nice Piece. But Just A Thought

Looking at the stages leading up to final I can't help but play Devils advocate here and maybe ask if there should have been a couple of different mockups before final.
I can't help wonder if the 2 rear cylinders exhaust tubes could have been tipped back slightly and or the 2 rear pipes slighly extended inside the large manifold ( in a curved triangular finger on the leading edge) to aid in efficeincy of low/mid range power. It'd been interesting to see if there were noticable gains at lower speeds where torque and horsepower is essential

I see what you're saying, but due to the spatial constraints of both the engine bay and piping being used that really wasn't possible. Especially on the driver's side!!!

Please note, there have actually been 3 other iterations of this design and in the end, this is what I was most comfortable with offering. Based on durability and overall performance.

Custom pieces are always the best of the enhancements while trying to minimize the ensuing negatives. Definetly a high quality piece done very well. Kudos.

Thanks Hary!! And to your other points, I also have downpipes and a center section that make up the rest of the system for those that want a little more.
