Clk430 - water pump questions
Hey All,
Yesterday I started up my 2002 Clk after returning from a week of vacation and heard some squealing noise a few minutes after startup. I grabbed my mechanics stethascope and narrowed it down to the casing behind the fan pulley which I believe to be the water pump. Does anyone have any experience replacing this on their own or any idea what the stealer charges for this?
Also is it advisable to replace anything else at that point in time, i have 96k on it.
thanks for any help as having an issue crop up while the car is in the garage is annoying at best.

It's a pretty easy job to do. Just remember what bolts go where (different lengths). All the bolts are e-torx heads too. Nothing else really comes to mind, not like a 4 pop with timing belts.

also is there a prefferable replacement brand? I see the duralast, beck/arnley and a few others from major parts houses. The pictures do show some differences as well. ( if they are actual pictures )

I will do that. I am not in front of the car now, but other than the cooling fan is anything else attached to the water pump?
When I did the water pump on my camaro there were other brackets and components attached to the same bolts that made it slower to put back together as everything had to be loosened and reattached/adjusted for belts and the such.
When I did that one i pulled the bolts out and placed them in each of the holes of the new water pump so they went back where they came from.

Their part number Q1030002, is genuine Mercedes coolant (e.g. exactly what the dealers sell at half the price).
Just bought oil and air filters with a gallon from autohausAZ a couple of weeks ago. Shipping is free on orders over $50.
Alternatively, if you can use Zerex G-05 Antifreeze / Coolant, if you can find it locally.

Cooling system capacity is 2 gallons...so for a 50/50 mix, a gallon of coolant and gallon of distilled water is perfect.

Thanks, I have located Zerex G-05 at the local parts warehouse at 11 bucks a gallon.
Is there a special tool to remove the fan and clutch? I do not believe I can get anything on there to remove the fan.
This is an ominous start, wondering if I should bail out and pay the big bucks...

hmm, I wonder if I can find that locally, or maybe enlist two people to hold wrenches on the pulley bolts...
I love the struggle, if it was easy women and children would do these jobs right?

If you have trouble trying to find a flat 36MM wrench, go hit up a bike shop. Most will have a thin style 36MM wrench for bottom brackets. It may not be long enough, but you can always extend it with a cheater pipe. Be careful not to get to crazy while in there, take caution while workign around the radiator dont want to accidently punch a hole or mash a bunch of fins down.
