CLK trans convertor shudder---HELP please

2002 CLK 430...bought the car used and has about 120,000 mi

PROBLEM--has a noticable touque convertor shudder at 32-38 mph with light throttle. If you accerate or let off it goes away. When it comes/goes it doesnt fade in/out, it shudders or doesnt shudder. If you hold the throttle and lightly accelerate you can maintain the shudder to about 40 mph.

HISTORY--When I bought the car it had a bad trans problem. Antifreeze had gotten into the trans fluid through a cooler leak. The trans was rebuilt and rad repaced. The shudder was noticed where the convertor was replaced a second time and the fluid changed to BG. The shudder returned, the printed circut was then replaced. My trans builder tells me that everything on alldata has been completed to the transmission system and they are at a loss. They asked me to check with MB to see of any updates were available to the trans programming. Called the dealer and they commented over the phone almost hinting they had seen the problem before.....said "you dont have a convertor problem you have something else--bring it in"

Some one HELP me please!!!!

You may want to check the flex discs and the rear subframe mounts.

Marcus---

Thank you for the reply and I will be checking the items you suggest as they both are wear items, but we are quite certain the problem is in the TCC circut. All of the attempts mentioned above produced temporary or minor reductions in the symptoms. The symptoms to some level remain. Any reduction in the trouble has always been temporary, only to have it progressivly return. Today I reset the TPS "learn" and seem to notice a very small reduction in the frequency and severity of the trouble. I do question how much this actually helped, I could just be wishing too much.

The trans rebuilder, as best I can repeat his words, said the trouble seems to be in some type of feathering circut the MB has for TCC engagement. Typically a TCC is engaged or not engaged but MB has a system that regulates partial engagement or feathering. The feel in the vehicle is similar to dropping a tire off a driving lane onto the rumble bars on a highway. You "feel" the problem in your feet and on the floorboard not in the seat of the car.

UPDATE----

Checked the flex joints (Marcus)---Front and rear showed no visible signs of damage or wear. The rubber was intact and flexible. I rotated the shaft to verify. The rear subframe mounts also showed no signs of damage. The front ones didnt have much to see on inspection and most seemed hidden. The rear was holding the subframe as designed and showed no obvious wear of damage. If there is a particular procedure for inspecting these other than visual I would like to know that, otherwise----

My problem persists !!!!!!!!!

99CLK320,
If you are located in NE we have very few competent resources other than the dealer.

Yup Nebraska....and we dont have much her except alot of corn. THe dealer in Lincoln is the WORST car dealer I have ever encounterede irriguardless of brand. Omaha is pretty good to deal with but it is tough for me to get there from Grand Island.

Thank you for noticing my post.

I still hope to find an idea here reguarding my questions above-----anyone??

I see you have changed the fluid but did you ever do a flush of the lines? You may still have a contamination issue??
