Question Flat hood emblem question

I just rec'd my flat hood emblem to replace the star on my hood. The new emblem itself is bigger than the one it's replacing. Is this correct? In other words the new emblem will not fit into the old spot, but will go over it. It seems that this will end up scratching the hood.
btw, I bought it at Park Place Motorcars.

Any ideas?

yes, it sits on top of the hood, covering the indented part where the original fitted into.

just carefully tighten it in nice and smug and make sure the top doesn't move when you're tightening it up. It looks so much better than the "star", much sportier.

Thanks, it seems to fit fine. Not sure if I love the look, but I'll give it some time and see if it grows on me.

You will after a few days. When I first got mine, I switched back and forth a couple of times, before leaving the flat emblem for good.

me too.

but it just didnt seen right, so i put the star back on and it looks like a benz again.

I think if u wanna fit the flat emblem, then u should also go for the star on the front grill like thein. If u can afford to get the CL style grill and hood done, then even better.

I too got one of the flat stars from Park Place Motorcars and I'm not happy with it. First it doesn't sit right on the hood since the hood is slightly curved - there's a small gap at the front and back.

I kept the flat star there for three days but I just put the vertical star back and it looks much better.

cant go take pictures right now, but i got one of the ///AMG hood badges that were made and circulated through the forum. it is the same size as the indentation and fits right down in it perfectly, looks like it belongs on the car. SL55AMG had them made, might want to ask him if he still has some, i think he sold his SL55 so im not sure if hes around anymore.

Well,

Today I just looked at my hood and my flat hood emblem flew off somewhere yesterday, I always saw the little space in front cause it really doesn't fit snug with the indent, so now I guess i'm back to the star, but I really do like the flat emblem so who knows i'll probably purchase another one. Anyone have any ideas on how to keep it snug and fitted, I made sure the screws were tight and snug so I don't know what happened, oh well, let me go place the hood star back on

I perchased my flat emblem through Performance....The flat emblem is aluminum. Therefore it can flex around the curverture of the hood. What I did was.......I pressed my flat emblem with my palms over another and rock it back and forth a couple times. Then my emblem formed around the curverture of the hood. That's all to it to fix the gap between the emblem and the hood.

Well, unless you overscrewed it and broke something initially, it 'shouldn't "fly" off... another possibility? unless u witnessed it fly off, someone may have jacked it

you can try what i did... i just used a little bit of double sided foam tape... holds well, and since there is no contact, no scratches...

Oooh... i wouldn't really recommend that at all... few things to keep in mind, those emblems are not made 'perfectly' and they have uneveness underneath (very little) but it is enough to scratch your hood is you slide it over your hood too much... so becareful... i've got a few circular lines on my hood from the install also.

Aluminum? I was sure they where plastic. I'll try and see.
