CLK320 Won't start... I'm thinking CPS?
Hi folks, my 1999 CLK320 with 130,000kms finally presented me with its first major inconvenience.
Been driving all day no problems, then stopped at the mall for about an hour. Came back to the car, and it cranks strong and steady, but doesn't start. Checked the fuel pump fuse and its okay. In my searches on here, am I right to assume it's likely the CPS? Waited a while and tried cranking again a few times, but same problem,.. After about 20 tries I don't want to kill the starter!
Thanks,
- Alex

No CEL... when it started back up it was like nothing had ever happened! Planning a road trip next week and do NOT want this to happen again on the interstate somewhere!!

Unfortunately I don't have immediate access to a scanner, but if my symptoms seem in-line with what a junky CPS would be, then I'm more than happy to just swap it out.
Seems like most people have prior issues with stalling rather than just flat out "not starting". I've never had any stalling issues, but maybe it was just a matter of time??

Check battery and wires that lead to the cylinders. If it didnt start but you went back and i started it was probably cause it was heat soaked and electricity couldn't run through.
My battery was no good and heat soaked and refused to start.

Sounds like the CPS. My experience started when I was parking so my car was running at low speeds and low revs then the car stalled. Same thing would happen when I would stop at traffic lighs as the car wasn't being revved high.
After stalling, I would need to wait like 20 minutes until the CPS cooled down for the car to start again. At that point, car would start like there was nothing wrong.
