cracked front bumper...any ideas
backed out of parking lot and bottom of front bumper caught onto one of those concrete wheel stops. It cracked at center on lower bumper. Any ideas on how to fix w/o having to pay for a whole new bumper cover?
Thanks,
Tom

I''m not sure of exactly what piece of the bumper you cracked but the bumper is actually made up of several pieces so only the one you cracked would have to be replaced. Hopefully it's just the bottom trim piece so the cost should not be too much.

The CLK430 (which i believe is what you have) front bumper is mainly 2 pieces... 1 main large assembly, and the 1 insert in the middle.
I'm sure you are talking about the lower apron portion of the front bumper, which I've had mine caught a couple times (cracked & caused the middle insert to pop off)
It should be relatively un-noticeable, so I say leave it alone. If it cracked all the way up to the front where it is visible, you can take it to a shop to patch/sand/repaint it for probably about $500. Buying a new bumper would probably run you about $2,000 easy (probably not painted either).

Tom,
I hope you rec'd my private email. I was told by my body shop that most of the bumpers sold (Ebay) are probably refinished cracked bumpers. He thinks that's why they are primered. My guy is going to fix mine, cheaper than buying a new one.
Howard
P.S. The bumper is 3 pieces. Big main piece (the one you cracked) the plastic bumper rub insert part ($60) and the middle snap in fin ($250)

Didn't get it...I sent you one also.
Saw a guy at body shop and told me same thing. Most are repaired/don't fit right. or tough to work with. If you know what to look for you can get a nice used one. He said claim it on insurance...get all three new pieces/paint /labor less deductable. I'll have a brand new cover and I'll be guaranteed that the work will be top quality (body man said that few will guarantee work if you bring in a used piece).
Thanks for info.
Anyone else have ideas?
