i thought about going that same route of only smoking the clear parts... but i didn't imagine it would turn out like that...
if it was me, i wouldn't smoke the clear part as much as you did... maybe just 1 coat would do. or if you want the clear part that dark, at least spray the red part with 1 coat... just my opion

its not that dark. it was cloudy and raining when i took the pics. I'll take more pics when the weather is nicer. while its darker then E55, its not any darker than SL55
Anywayz, I got i done @ www.smokedlamps.com . Jim was great. It only took a day and the finish is perfect, just the way I wanted it. Its smooth and shiny just like the original lights. Jim smokes light on lots of high-end car. All I saw in his shop were benz's and bimmers. He can smoke any part of the light and clearcoats the whole thing at the end thats why it looks original. He can do any shade you want. I wanted my lights to be exactly like sl55's, and luckly there was an SL55 in West Coast Customes which is next door to smokedlamps(along with Bentleys and Lamborghinis). It turned out to be exactly how I wanted. Jim did a great job

I did smoked my tailight and the guy from my bodyshop did not recommend to smoke only the white part. He was saying that it wouldn't be like E55. Because he recommended me to smoke a whole tailight, so I just did a whole thing. Now I see why he didn't recommend it. People has all different tastes but that's not my taste at all.
