check strap issue

Upon research, looks like my check strap is shut on the drivers side as my door swings open without 1,2,3 stop and my window only opens halfway. I found a great deal online on part and found how to remove door panel under "search". My question is, does the battery need to be disconnected to remove the door panel? I read some ways disconnect the battery and some don't. can I get through the front speaker opening to get to the check strap? How will I remove the broken check strap pieces? I couldn't find dyi on check strap so any help will be appreciated. Thanks

You should be able to get it out through the opening for the windo regulator, if no the speaker can be removed and accessed that way. There are the two 10mm hex bolts holding it from the outside, and one 10mm hex bolt holding it on the inside (behind the plastic sheeting once the door panel is removed).

That's more clear. Thanks!! I ordered the part today so it should come next week. How about the battery? Should I disconnect? I forgot to mention that my cars going into the shop for srs. I have srs warning on my dash which keeps my srs turned off(I assume) until the warning light is fixed. With this in mind, still disconnect the battery? Thanks a bunch for you help!

You should be ok since the SRS system is shut down due to a fault in the system (maybe passenger recognition sensor?), but if you want to play it extra safe, just disconnect the ground from the battery.

I replaced the strap and yes, it was a faily easy diy thanks to all!
Shop told me the SRS light is due to child/passenger seat recognition sensor within the seat and it will cost $600 to fix, mainly for the labor since the seat upholstery have to be taken apart to get to the sensor. I didn't get it fix at the shop yet. Does anyone have a part # to this sensor and diy instruction? I appreciate any help on this. Thanks!
