Question DIY for 99 clk320 throttle body?

Could someone point me in the right direction for a DYI for cleaning the throttle body? I did a search but could not find one. I'm trying to trouble shoot a starting issue that I have from time to time. When i turn the car on it starts and dies instantly then i turn the key and it fires right up. This happens only occasionally and my mechanic suggested that I do this. FYI I just replaced my CPS sensor and that seemed to help but not alleviate the problem any help would be great. Thanks!!

I would just take it off and wipe down the inside with some kind of solvent, like brake cleaner. I doubt that's your problem though, how's your MAF? Any codes?

Thanks for the reply. I had the codes checked at AutoZone and everything came back clear. I was just going on what my mechanic said. Though that was over the phone and he has not looked at it yet. The problem happens only occasionally at best. I will look at MAF as it is easy to do. The car has just 58k on it if that helps.

Please use throttle body cleaner not brake cleaner !!
Brake cleaner has chlorinated (aka perchloroethylene/PERC/dry cleaning fluid) say goodbye to any plastic or rubber it touched !

It doesn't matter what is used on the inside, it's all metal.

Just cleaned the MAF with some MAF cleaner so we'll see if that makes a difference.

Well after cleaning the MAF there was no difference at all. I still get the original problem when I turn the key it starts then dies, turn the key again and it fires right up. This happens about three times a week with no pattern. I have not cleaned the throttle body yet as it looks pretty tough to get to. Anybody have any ideas?

Well I just was at the dealer having my trans flushed (Thanks for the dealer coupon that I found on this site!!) and talked to the head wrench about my starting issue and he suggested that it might be the replacement key that i bought from them. I'm in the process of testing that with the original key that came with the car. So far no starting issues, but will test for a couple of weeks. Marcus, I see what you mean after reading another post that you replied to about the fuel pump issue another member was having. that will be my next step. This is off topic but i have a couple questions regarding some services that I'm doing as I 've had this car 3 months and I wont sleep right untill they are completed. Here goes.....

The car has almost 60k on it (59 and change)

1 changed oil - 0w 40 Mobil 1 plan to run for 10K is that OK?

2 had dealer flush trans

3 Flushing the coolant system and I'm using Zerex g-05 as I have no idea whats
in it. is that OK?

4 I plan on changing the rear diff oil and saw in the manual that it called for a Hypoid gear oil SAE90, 85 W 90 1.4 qts. can I use a 75W-90 like Mobil or Royal Purple or should I stick to dealer oil? Also I saw in post where you said to replace the plugs and add some type of lock tight (I have Treadlocker blue) is that right?

5 What type of power steering fluid should I use? The MB brand or is there something better?

My goal is to use the best fluids possible.
Thanks!!!
