2001 CLK 430 w/5.4 swap, 2000 CLK430
they're cool but that seems like a **** ton of money for ~120 more HP. I'd still rock it though

How old is that article?

I'd love the extra torque a 6.0liter motor would produce over my AMG conversion, but it wouldn't be much.

With Custom Long tube headers, Evo Sport pulley kit, AMS Crank pulley, Schrick Cams, Custom Vipclk320 Cold air feed and Custom tune makes 12hp more power at 420hp and was a hell of a lot cheaper!

Old article from the April, 2000 issue of Motor Trend By Jeff Bartlett. Guessing at the time this car was still pretty new so the price was appealing to those who could afford it. Maybe they were trying to compete with BRABUS.
  • BRABUS B10 Tuning Kit, for CLK 430, 225 kW / 306 hp
  • BRABUS 5.8 V8, for CLK 430 and CLK 55, 400 hp / 294 kW, 579 Nm
  • BRABUS 6.1 V8, for CLK 430 and CLK 55, 426 hp / 313 kW, 621 Nm

A 2002 CLK55 AMG RENNTECH with 500HP on Ebay, I would love to see a Dyno with that. It being RENNTECH can't believe they don't have a Dyno posted. 27K is allot of money for a possibility, might as well go with a 2004 SL55 instead.

PJ, why did you go with AMS Crank pulley vice EvoSport? Did you loose lower to mid range power with the Schrick Cams? Everywhere I read and everyone i talked to said that it's a give and take and the take with going with cams is that you loose out on the lower to mid range.

Hi Williams.

I went with AMS (even after research) because at the time they were doing a deal with their headers and pulley.

Originally I contacted Evosport but they took over 6weeks to reply. I eventually got their pulley kit once a reply came through.

Omey at AMS is a great Guy, very communicative and he stands by his products, ie if there is a problem (which there was with his headers) he'll fix it.

Yes, I too lost low and mid range torque. I didn't mind too much as the 55 has plenty of grunt. The Schrick cams moved the power to 3000 rpm at which point it takes off! Up top the car has plenty of go. it gets to and past 160 so easily. 0-60 is slightly better from over all more power and the pulleys help with faster revs.

I can cruise at 98mph at 3000rpm not using the power which helps fuel consumption which went up!
Expensive as it is, it is worth doing in my book.

i almost bought one a few years ago. however the one i looked at had the full renntech treatment. wide-body, 6.1L engine, and a manual transmission. In Ca you cant register a car that has a transmission switch. i will look to see if i have a photo of it somewhere at home, the thing was truly amazing.

How much are we talking for the BRABUS 6.1 V8, for CLK 430 and CLK 55, 426 hp / 313 kW, 621 Nm ??

Isit as simple as shipping my car to Brabus and they return it as a CLK61?

PJ, I'm a little confused.

Refresh my memory, do you drive a CLK430, or CLK 55, or CLK430 with a 55 engine, or do you drive both? If both what mods did you do to the 430.

CA got some crazy rules but I heard you can drive anything in CA if you pay the right people...lol

What was the cost of the 6.1L? Can wait to see the photo.

Not sure but I think it's going to be very expensive because for the CLK 320 BRABUS wanted $4,000 just for an additional +18 hp
