oil leak

I hit a curb yesteraday on the left side of my clk 320 2002 and it popped up on the curb, and instantly the stop engine!, check oil light came on. Im gonna have it towed to the dealership but i wanted to know what i was looking at as far as repairs, i tried putting some oil in it today and instantly the oil dripped out. THe car let me drive after hitting the curb home witch was about 10 miles, and then to work this morning so another 14 miles then made it all the way almost home and it died within a mile of my house, not to mention im a idiot becuase i hear the gears grinding but i figured if only i can make it home. Is it just the oil pan that needs ot be replaced or is this about to be hella expensive?

Guaranteed not to be cheap. Driving 10 miles with your engine bleeding to death? Oi vey dude! Who knows how much damage you did. I hope you have either a warranty or a fat wallet.

If you heard grinding it's not going be good. Especially since it died, the motor may be seized.

Please post back and let us know what the dealer charges for a long block w/installation. I'm not trying to be funny, I'd really like to know. I know Metric has rebuilt M112 long blocks for $7500 +install. Having been run dry, yours might cost another $1400 (no core).

If the oil was only dripping out, hopefully you had a small leak, but if the oil was pouring out, you might be in trouble, I cracked the pan and the oil drained out real quick, and big red lights came on the dash, and when you have red and not yellow, you know its bad. I hope everything works out!

99CLK320,
Leak(?) 753? Whats leaking? Is the pan cracked? Is the gasket leaking? What? I would really question the need for the rear main seal. Usually with a crankshaft seal leaking if it is relatively young there won't be too much oil coming from that point and, like they said, it was pre-existing, yes? Did up notice this leak b-4?. How many miles on your car?

I would start with the oil pan and have them verify that the internals are still good before fixing parts on a potentially wrecked engine. None of the problems quoted should've cause your engine to die, unless there's some type of computer-controlled safety that I'm not aware of.

Im not positive on the merc, but not uncommon to have oil pressure linked to fuel pump power.... loose pressure loose power. Still though, if you heard "grinding" thats no bueno! No way would I be dropping that kind of cash till I knew the health of the motor.
